This is a regional team, it's not relegated to Buffalonians only. If that were the case, I could see where you may have a point here. But it's not.

Looks like it's pretty much been the same the entire time there has been an NFL franchise located near this population.

      - - - Updated - - -

maybe the Bills are the reason for the declining population???????? That's pretty much up to speed with some of the statisticians around here

Re: If this trend does not stop, I doubt the Bills will be viable in the next 10 year

              Here's some better data:http://www.google.com/publicdata/exp...y%20population

I only linked the chart for Erie County, but here are numbers for Erie, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Genessee, Wyoming & Livingston. I don't have Canadian numbers but they matter too.
This is a lot less than the City of Buffalo's -26.98% population drop from 1980 to 2010, or the 2000 to 2010 drop of 10.71%. Just because the City of Buffalo is losing population, it doesn't mean the Bills won't be viable in 10 year if trends continue. The sky isn't falling.
              Erie County: 1980 1,015,500; 2000 949,494, 2010 918,751 1980 to 2010 % change -9.53%; 2000 to 2010: -3.24%
              Monroe County 2000 735,346, 2010 744,344
              Niagara County 2000 219,665 2010 216,542
              Genessee County 2000 59,400 2010 60,080
              Livingston County 2000 57,006 2010 65,070
              Wyoming County 2000 39,895 2010 41,318
              Orleans County 2000 38,496 2010 42,622
              Total 2000 2,099,302 2010 2,088,727 -0.5% change, one half of 1%.

Another concern for the long term viability of the team beyond the current lease is I feel the poorly run team over the lat 13 years they are losing a generation of fans. Not nearly as many young football fans will choose the bills as their team because they don't want to be associated with a loser.

                      Exactly.

After his haircut, Gaskin drove me to nearby Burgard High School, a mostly African American school where his son played linebacker. About 10 players, all of them in their game jerseys, met me at the school's entranceway. They were playing Lackawanna that night. I asked them about the Bills — only one of them considered himself a fan. The others rooted for the Redskins, the Ravens, or (gasp) the Patriots. Their favorite players all came from other teams. But age as much as race might account for this lack of Bills identification. Howard Simon, a Buffalo sports radio commentator and a white guy, told me that his son and his son's friends knew the Bills only as a failure. To them the playoffs existed as a kind of rumor, like eight-track cassettes or some other unrecognizable concept their dads yakked about. His son adored Peyton Manning.

thats a great great point. my dad was a huge lions fan being from detroit but when i was 5,6,7 living in buffalo, they grew on me! they were so exciting and fun i just had to be a fan... i was there from 87-90... and then with my influence, my little brother became a huge fan...
