Because good coaches like Gruden don't want their legacies ruined by getting their fingerprints on this ****ing train wreck.

Taking the easy way out makes your legacy impressive? Taking on a train wreck and succeeding is what made Levy and Polian.

Yeah well, 10 or 15 or 20 years from now, no one's going to remember that Gruden or Cowher could have coached the Buffalo Bills but didn't. But everyone is going to remember that they won SB's with the teams they did coach. And if they risk coaching the Bills, then their legacy will be tarnished.

Sure, if a coach like that could turn this team around in addition to their SB's with other teams, they would go down as one of the greatest ever. But it's a hell of a risk when they already have a great legacy.

10-15-20 years from now no one will care that Gruden or Cowher came here and failed either. People will point back to their successes and then applaud their efforts to try and turn around a tire fire here in Buffalo but ultimately could not due to Ralph, Littman, Brandon, whatever. But they gave it a good run and should be commended for not just settling on their laurels.

            Like what I did there?

People who follow the Bills will know that. But most people don't follow the Bills. They don't know about Ralph and Littman and Brandon- they just know that we suck. So, they'll look back and see a nice big black mark on the coach's resume.

                It is.

But this team has never attracted a head coach that has been successful elsewhere, ever. Even Levy- without a doubt this team's greatest coach- had a pretty checkered record before coming to Buffalo.
