Well, he begged in public for an opportunity. I guess they can't let him look like a fool.

If they're going the DC route, I'd rather see Horton. I've never seen Lovie as HC material and don't get the attraction at all.

I am sure they have others more preferable but they need to cover all their bases just in case they do not land their top or second choice.

He has an 81-63 record as a HC, plus 3-3 in the playoff with a Super Bowl appearance. I don't think he had super talented teams, so he must be doing something right. I get the criticism of him for allowing his offenses to flounder, but clearly the man can coach. You don't win games over time by accident.

Whisenhunt is 4-2 in the playoffs and 1 Santonio Holmes miracle catch away from wining the SB.

His teams struggled on offense. If he is the choice, there has to be an effort to get him a good OC.

Ray Horton fills that requirement.

True then I have no idea why we would ever even bother with Lovie Smith.

If we can't have Cowher or Gruden, Lovie Smith is my #3 choice. Chip Kelly #4.

Why? What do you like about Lovie?

Why? What do you like about Lovie?

A winning record, a .500 record in the playoffs (the playoffs, now I know its been a while but he's been to the post season several times since 2005), and he took the Bears to a superbowl with Rex Grossman (who may be as bad as Fitz).

We're probably interviewing him regarding our current Head Coaching vacancy.

Good to hear. I would love Kelly as the coach and Lovie as D cordinator, but i doubt that will happen.

Yeah that wouldnt go over well, however no one is really beating down Lovies door for a HC position either.

they should bring Kyle ,Dareus, Mario and Gilmore with them when they offer him the DC position.

i agree with the negatives with lovie. and i agree with the pros about lovie.

but i think his inability to really run a talented team in chicago this year is a big sign of trouble. granted, who knows how much cutler's attitude brings down a team, but he was 7-1 this season before the down turn.

one good thing about him, is that his players hate that he got fired. anyone a free agent on D that we'd like? i'm sure they'd be all ears about buffalo.

it would be amazing to get a guy like cowher to be HC, then ask chip kelly to be the OC with potential HC when cowher takes a GM role. and have lovie as DC

all three would need to be paid like they never were paid before at the highest level.

bright offensive mind with bright defensive mind, with a proven leader who knows how to keep things on track.

I'd rather have Jimmy Johnson as HC with Andy Reid as OC and Belichick as DC.

Players' coaches don't necessarily mean a good coach. Look at Jauron. What a nice guy to the players, "treat them as men", but it also contributes to constantly finding excuses for players' poor play.

He's coached good enough not to lose twice in the past seven years to make it to the NFC title game and he's went to the superbowl. I'll take manic depressive coach or sea of tranquility as long as we're winning. Quiet confidence is just as good as winning enthusiasm.

Lovie is a very passionate and more animated man behind closed doors. There is something to be said for keeping a calm outside demeanor on the sidelines or with the press when you're the leader. I prefer a fiery guy like Mike Tomlin but that doesn't mean I want a blow-hard over someone who has a proven track record like Smith.

He'd be a great hire - less risky than Kelly, but perhaps less reward.

Since Chip Kelly is likely out i think Lovie or Horton are my choices.

BTW Horton was on the 1992 Cowboys team that beat us in the Superbowl.
