Buffalo Bills Beat Reporter, Joe Buscaglia just reported on WGR550 that his league source tells him that the Buffalo Bills will be "VERY AGGRESSIVE" in their search for their next Defensive Coordinator.

Could it be Lovie Smith??? Hmmmm.....

Basically, this means that the Buffalo Bills are telling Doug Marrone that they will give him whatever money that he wants to build the coaching staff. If Lovie Smith can't get a head coaching job, maybe he'll be interested in joining forces with Marrone? :idunno:

Someone stated on WGR earlier today that there is a connection between Marrone and Lovie Smith too. I dont remember what it is though.

As long as they will be aggressive in getting a qb and some moe talent on this team, then ill be excited. Players play. We need the QB before I care about the rest of the coaches

I'd just as soon he bring Shafer with him from Syracuse with his attack/blitz style.. but maybe he's the next Syracuse coach.

Aggressive..that just means they're going to hire the Canisius coach after they interview him in Albuquerque.

Good to hear, but at the same time, just have to wait and see who they actually do hire. The staff will be very important. And frankly, I'm sick of seeing these top coordinators continue to go elsewhere while we're in dire need of someone who knows how to do the job. Makes me think that the coaching staff is one aspect where the Bills really showed their cheap tendencies.

I just researched it. That is false. He was in St Louis as a Defensive Coordinator when Doug Marrone was at Tennesee.

I doubt when it's all said and one that Lovie will be our DC. But it is encouraging to hear that the Bills understand how important tightening up our defense is. And, they will be "aggressive" in getting the best person to fix it.

Had a conversation with my dad about this yesterday, but it was the opposite.

He said he was hoping for Lovie Smith as HC with Marrone as his OC.

Also, what about the OC?

this is very interesting.... i would like to see more reports on this. Bringing in a vet D coordinator like a lovie or horotn, will only be posible once all coaching vacancies have been filled.

I'm not sure how since Lovie was with the Vols in 1993 and 1994 and Marrone worked there in 2001.

That came from me and I fixed it. There is no direct link between Smith and Marrone.

I sure hope Doug doesn't bring in Donnie Henderson as DC, as he's been horrible in that role in the NFL.

Gregg Williams for DC?

X-Era

How about a few of these successful college defensive coord's... DB? Thoughts?

These are some of the top ranked team defenses this year:

Bama- Kirby Smart (DC and LB, has won the Broyles award)- 3-4 Over/Under
Michigan State- Pat Narduzzi (DC)- 4-3 Over/Cover 4
BYU- Bronco Mendenhall (HC, former DC)- Uses Rocky Longs 3-3-5 and 3-4
ND- Bob Diaco (DC, also won the Broyles award this year)- 3-4 "no-crease" defense

This is just what I've found. I don't know that much about these guys. Really looks like Narduzzi would be the only one who runs a 4-3

Gregg Williams for DC?

I think GW is forever banned from coaching in the NFL. I'll admit I had Gregg Williams flash backs when read this on Wikipedia about Marrone
Reportedly, alumni such as Tim Green and Floyd Little wanted Marrone from the moment Robinson was fired, and when interviewed by Green, it was learned that Marrone had kept a folder of current high school players in the Syracuse area to get a head start in recruiting

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Marrone

Although Gregg's son Blake is available as he got fired from St. Louis three days ago.

Kinda hoping 'VERY AGGRESSIVE' means something a little bit different than 'TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH', as apparently the end of the earth is two hours from Buffalo via Arizona.

That would be a great hire. Will never happen but we'd have a middle of the pack D in year 1 as opposed to the worst D we've been accustomed to the past 3 years.

Gregg Williams would be great but he's barred. Jauron would actually be OK. But Lovie Smith still might be on the top of the list if we are able to get him. Horton is still on Cards payroll and he's 3-4 guy. I just don't want this team to go through another defensive scheme change.

By all accounts, I believe the defense will be carrying this team next year. If they get the right DC and some quality LBs FA and draft, you might be looking at 49ers defense. I do, however, admit that I don't think Kyle Williams is the right guy for this defense and he's had injury for a few years now. It won't be popular but I'd trade him if I get quality returns.
