Investigators probing an alleged loansharking ring have seized $85,000 from a safety-deposit box co-owned by Canadiens goalie Jose Theodore and his father, police sources told the Le Journal de Montreal.
Police have also recently executed a warrant on a bank account belonging to Jose Theodore, according to the newspaper.
According to media reports, Ted Theodore, Jose's father, was one of 16 people arrested last month in connection with the alleged blackmail ring. Theodore's four half-brothers were also reported to have been picked up in the sweep.
Police refused to address the reports in Le Journal, but have said Jose Theodore is not a suspect.
Jose Theodore has denied any involvement in the alleged ring. In a June 20 statement he also said he was deeply saddened by what has happened to his father and brothers.
