x-first-year eligible; y-senior nominee

My five picks would be WR's Reed, Carter & Brown, P Ray Guy and ST Steve Tasker, but obviously that isn't happening. All three receivers are overdue, Guy is the biggest travesty in any HOF, and Tasker belongs IMO. Given the 15 finalists, though, I would have to say...

RB-Jerome Bettis--the HOF voters love their RB's.
G-Will Shields
WR-Cris Carter--one of the WR's finally cracks through, and his current public visibility pushes him past the other two.
DE-Michael Strahan--only because one of the first-timers will probably get in.
HC--Bill Parcells--He's due, and DeBartolo/Modell have no business even being in the conversation.
DT--Curley Culp--Senior nominee that should've been put in years ago.

Jerome Bettis is a guy who will get in the HOF but hopefully not for a few years.

On the surface, you'd think he'd be a shoe-in. He's 6th all time in rushing yards and tied for 10th all time in rushing touchdowns.

But his stats are a testament to longevity more than dynamic play. In thirteen seasons, he was only a top 5 rusher three times.

Bettis' career YPC is below 4.0; hardly the kind of stuff that will leave HOF voters breathless.

But his bruising running style and storybook ending may appeal to the Selection Committee.

I think there are more deserving candidates who have been waiting longer to get in. Bettis shouldn't be enshrined this year.

I don't see them ignoring skill positions completely in favor of the trenches.

Watch it be Modell, debartelo, carter, and tuna
Just because art died, and the ravens and Niners are playing and they'll put carter in just so he'll shut his yapper

because the hall hasn't been convinced he'll stay retired. They don't want to vote him in, only to return to the NFL to coach another team.

Joe Gibbs went in back in 1996 and they didn't remove his bust when he came back in 2004.

that's the point. they can't stop a HOF coach from returning to the game. a lot of them are still alive and able to coach. They just don't like voting them in when they aren't technically retired. The first time BP was up, rumors surfaced that he was returning to coaching (he was) so they didn't vote him in, and sure enough he was in Dallas (a year later). The next time he was up, rumors surfaced he was returning to coaching (he didn't) instead he ended up in Miami as GM, he's eligible again... this time I think at age 71, it's a safe bet he's not returning to coaching. No rumors popping up this time tieing him to some team... so he'll get in.

Kent Hull should be in the discussion. It's ridiculous that he's not. Not many centers have been more integral to their team's success in NFL history.

What a bunch of horse ****. Gosselin just admitted on the selection show that the HOF selection committee are biased toward their own All-Decade teams.

Take a good look at the HOF All-Decade teams...that will give you a really good idea of whose going in over the next few classes, and Reed ain't one of 'em.

I thought it was a good HOF class myself.

It is a good class, it's really hard to argue against any of the final 15.

Although just IMO Kevin Greene, Modell and maybe even Williams are questionable in my book.

Just based on the HOF's all-decade team lists, here are the favorites for 2014...

LB Kevin Greene
WR Tim Brown
CB Aeneas Williams
DE Michael Strahan
G Will Shields

First-timers like WR Harrison or LBers Brooks or Z.Thomas may bump Greene and Brown.
