http://www.examiner.com/article/plenty-of-free-agent-wide-receiver-options-exist-for-bills

1.) Steve Breaston (http://www.examiner.com/topic/steve-breaston/articles): Speed. Breaston is a solid kick and punt returner. If there is one thing extremely evident with the release of Nelson and Jones, is that the Bills are looking for speed out of the wideout position. Breaston immediately provides the speed the Bills are looking for, but he can also play in the slot, and is not afraid to go across the middle.

2.) Ted Ginn Jr.: Cut from the same mold as Breaston, Ginn fills a need as a kick and punt returner while also providing dynamic speed. He could be picked up for a bargain price, probably even a smaller price tag than what Jones or Nelson would have commanded with their qualifying offers.

3.) Donnie Avery: The Colts may want to sign Avery back before the market opens, but after a terrific 2012 season, he may find more money on the open market. Avery had 60 grabs for 781 yards a year ago, and would be a shrewd addition who flies under the radar of some of the bigger names in the market.

4.) Brian Hartline: Like Avery, the Fins are going to want to keep Hartline, but the former Ohio State Buckeye's stock may never be higher; the perfect time to test the free agent waters. Hartline had a monster 2012 season in South Florida, catching 74 balls for 1083 yards. He doesn't fit the speed receiver mold, but Hartline knows how to get open and possesses phenomenal hands.

5.) Emmanuel Sanders: Here's the speed again. While Sanders is a restricted free agent likely to stay in Pittsburgh, he seems the perfect fit to wear a Bills uniform in Doug Marrone's offense. He would only cost the Bills a third-round pick if they took a run at Sanders, and if I told you today Buffalo's third round pick would catch 50 balls for 700 yards next season, you'd be elated. So why not guarantee that production with a run at Sanders?

Buckeye fan here.

Hartline catches everything and is $$ on 3rd down. Average speed but great hands, gets seperation running tight routes and will always put in the work. Good #2 WR.

Forget Ted Ginn.

I still think two guys not on that list, Louis Murphy (Carolina) and Ramses Barden (NYG) are more likely targets.

Someone is forgetting Wes Welker.Brady just extended so as to reduce their cap further... They may still re-sign Welker

Amendola is worth a look too. I am curious to see what type of WR personnel Marrone will be looking for.

I think the above two are viable options another name I brought up to is Brandon Gibson of the Rams. Although he might be on the higher end in terms of money I think he's a solid #2 WR. I stated in another thread I'd like to couple him with Patterson in the 1st Round to shore up our WR depth as to me it look like this: Stevie, Gibson, Graham, Patterson and Smith. With Patterson and Smith predominately as our kick returners and I could see Patterson stepping up to be our #2/3 in 2014 and possibly our #1 in 2015.

Being Marrone's offense has WCO roots one place to look is the guys who do well in a WCO, here's a link http://football.calsci.com/WCOHistory2.html Although if you don't want to read it to me guys who have excelled in the WCO are generally bigger 6'1 and 200#. Also clocked speed isn't vital but it helps if they play faster. See guys like Jerry Rice, TO, Rod Smith, Robert Brooks, Antonio Freeman are great examples. I will say that I really would like to us to take Patterson (6-1 215#) in the 1st only because how dangerous he is that he's hard to pass up but we could also look for less speedier later but not sure of them have the potential that Patterson has as a game breaker. Also here's a link to Syracuse's roster from 2012, http://syracuse.rivals.com/croster.asp?Team=SYRACUSE&Sort=3 the smallest listed WR was 5-11 180 lbs.

Personally, I don't like signing WR's as free agents. Don't have the data to back it up, but feels like they bust at a higher rate than other FA's.

My initial thought is that that's true, but I'd guess that's because a wideout's production is so often tied to their quarterback. When you take a guy who's been catching passes from Ben Roethlisberger or Tom Brady and now he's catching from Ryan Fitzpatrick, then they are going to look like a bust.

I think Edelman is a good choice too and is a younger version of Welker.

I highly doubt both Welker and Edelman hit the market. If Welker leaves, Edelman stays I'd wager.

Now what free agent WR would come to Buffalo with their QB situation unless the Bills overpay.

I wish ages were attatched to these players listed. I don't want an old guy on the downside brought in for big cash

Some successful ones:

Welker, Marshall, Moss, Plax, Gonzalez, Vincent Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jerry Rice, Boldin.. probably forgetting a bunch.

I don't really care to argue specifics, but I wouldn't count trades as free agency (except for Welker, because he was a RFA IIRC).

But IMO, even some of the successful ones still aren't really worth the money spent on them. FA WR's are too expensive, especially given that they aren't too hard to find in the draft.

Maybe so, but I'm not just talking guys who come to the Bills. I just much prefer to get them in the draft.
