The Islanders re-signed veteran defenseman Kenny Jonsson to a two-year contract Thursday. Financial terms were not released.
Jonsson, a restricted free agent, had eight goals and 18 assists in 71 games last season, his eighth with the Islanders.
A first-round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1993, Jonsson was traded to the Islanders in 1996. He has 58 goals and 180 assists in 607 games in 10 NHL seasons.
Jonsson's best season came in 1997-98, when he had 14 goals and 26 assists for 40 points in 81 games.
