View Full Version : Now that Fitz has been cut..
It's a lock we are drafting a QB with the 8th pick. Do you guys agree or disagree? You got to think Geno if he is available or Tyler Wilson. Wilson would remind me of the Tannenhill pick last year but I highly doubt Tavaris Jackson is our starter.

What worries me about Wilson is that he is not in Mayock's top 5. Anyone know why? Not that I think Mayock knows everything, but he is better than most.

Geno Yay! Wilson Nay! I'm not sold on Wilson and would welcome a trade down if Geno is gone as think Wilson could be had in the teens to early 20s of the draft. Yet I still like EJ Manuel in Round 2.
I have a feeling its Wilson at 8 even if Geno is there.

I wouldn't say it's a lock. I would agree that it's a lot more likely we'll draft a QB at some point, now.
Geno reminds me of Akili Smith.
Bills have to draft someone as they can't possibly go into next season with just Tavaris Jackson. I can live with Geno in round one but no other QB warrants a first round pick. Sucks that the Bills are in this position.

I certainly hope not, but the tea leaves are certainly pointing in that direction. My only hope, although I admit it's unlikely, is that another team behind us that is desperate for a QB falls for the 'it's so obvious Buffalo wants a QB' that they are willing to get ass-raped in a trade up with us and give up some extra picks.

interesting comparison... can't say it's completely off base. I think he has a better head for the position than Akili did though. No one is trading up for Geno so if he's there I say he's the pick. If he's not and we stand pat, it is going to be glaringly obvious that we are taking a QB in the 2nd.

Why, because they both have the last name Smith and are African American? Akili had one "great" year in the NCAA by comparison Geno had three.

I would love to trade back a little if possible then get a QB & have an additional pick. God knows we have enough holes to fill, we could use an extra pick or two.

It's a lock that they're going QB, it's also a lock that they're going to be bad the next two years, because they have nothing to really build around, maybe CJ. They don't have a D, not much of an offense.
If they're going to get desperate and reach for a QB they'll solve none of their problems, see the Cleveland Browns last year. This teams won't be good next year, take the BPA at 8, draft a development QB in the third and tank the season. This team needs a 2-14 season, this may be the year to do it too because the top of next years class is absolutely loaded.
Just acquire talent is my preference, regardless of position, mail this season in and go big next year. No point in setting this franchise back further, if that's even possible, with a QB that needs a lot of work.
I think it's a lock that Tavaris is starting Week 1 because a lot of these QBs need work.

AKA we trade to the top of the 2nd to guarantee we get the QB we want...with only 6 picks in this draft. Personally its to big of a risk to wait till the 2nd round or to even try and trade back in to the first. QB is the pick at 8

You know, that's not a bad comparison to be honest. Very similar players, I think Geno's got better pocket presence but he has ****ty footwork because he never really has to take a drop, neither did Sam to be honest.
Think Geno forces it more at times, slow to get off his first read and will just throw it up at times. K-State game was a good example, held on to it too long and never really went through his progressions.

Good old bumbling Buddy Nix should have made getting a franchise QB for the Bills his highest priority for the last several years, not waiting until Blitzpatrick was gone to start the search. Big "expert" GM that he is, he foolishly bought, hook, line and sinker, into Gailey's imbecilic theory that Fitzpatrick was the "QB of the Future"
Are there any Colin Kapernicks, or Russell Wilsons, or RG3s or Andrew Lucks around for the choosing this season?
Got a bad feeling with Nix at the helm that we'll end up with another stinker that WON'T be anywhere near as good as the aforementioned QBs. Who is he going to get that's as good as any or them?

Yeah, lets just forget that his idiot HC was fired just before the start of last season & that entire team was in turmoil.
In 2011, Wilson beat 11 teams he faced out of 13 he played while playing in the SEC, the toughest conference in College football.

I would not be thrilled to see the SU QB end up on the roster. I just hate to see the Bills put all their eggs in the Syracuse basket - they're a decent team, but they're no Alabama Crimson Tide - Nix could have, with some luck, got us some decent QBs in the last few seasons, but I assume he'll end up with bottom of the barrel and some homespun "Awww shucks!!!" in response when his selection fails to pan out.

Wow, I never realized how epically bad Blitzpatrick was;
Culled from the Football Database, here is ranking, based on win/loss percentage, of all current active QBs that have started at least 2 full seasons (32 games or more) - Ryan Fitzpatrick is 2nd worst in the league - 37th out of 38. Even horrible QBs like Jon Kitna, Byron Leftwich, Carson Palmer.... EVEN TRENT EDWARDS FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD..... are better than Fitzputrid in this statistical regard... Unbelievable that Gailey wasted 3 seasons on such dead wood! Only in Buffalo could such a player be "anointed" as the Starting Quarterback to the amazement and dismay of virtually everyone else!

I assumed they were referring to them as prospects, not comparing Brooks' pro career to Smith's college career. And Smith's college career utterly blows Brooks out of the water. Smith threw more TDs as a senior than Brooks threw as a collegian at all, and finished a full 12 points higher in completion %

I just don't see Smith getting past the Cardinals. I think this will be another year where the player that would fit the Bills perfectly goes right before the Bills pick just like Peppers and Bills take Mike Williams (late season win against Panthers year prior affected draft slot), Big Ben goes 2 picks before Bills and Bills end up with Evans, Patrick Willis goes the pick before Bills who take Lynch.

If that's the case then we need to show the discipline to go BPA at one of our many need areas and wait until the second. I'd be willing to take either Barkley, Wilson, Nassib, Jones or Manuel if Marrone thinks they have a chance at developing into a legitimate starter down the road. If not, then you really gamble and wait until the third and hope there's a guy left who can compete right away for a starting spot. Not an impossible situation but definitely far from desirable.
