Patriots sign Amendola - 5 years, $31 million

Welker leaves and the Patriots sign Amendola to replace him. The two have so many similarities that it's almost a bit creepy.

The Patriots and free-agent wide receiver Danny Amendola have reportedly reached an agreement "in principle" on a five-year contract, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.

The contract is worth a reported $31 million per Ian Rappaport of NFL Network, including $10 million guaranteed.

That didn't take very long. Literally an hour after the news broke that the Patriots lost Wes Welker to the Denver Broncos, they bring in Welker's replacement, Amendola. Amendola is likely one of the closest receivers to Welker the Patriots could have found, too. Both were undrafted free agents out of Texas Tech, both are better as slot receivers, both are about the same size and they kind of look alike as well.
Amazing how quick the Patriots sign a replacement after losing one of their players... Meanwhile, the Bills have let 2 OL go and haven't replaced either of them.

He's not as good as Welker and they are locked into him longer.

Sam Bradford is no Tom Brady but Amendola did quite well with Sam tossing him the ball. Toss in he's familiar with McDaniel's system from their time together in 2011 when Amendola had his best season. Toss in he also worked opposite Brandon Lloyd too in St. Louis. Say what you want but this was a good signing for the Patriots. Notice how many tosses I'm making because that's what we're going to see Brady do just toss or dump it off to Amendola like he did to Welker and it killed us.

So the Pats pissed off Brady and paid a guy who is absolutely not as good as Welker more money than Welker got?

          I like it.

At least one person in the Tom Brady camp is not a happy camper about Brady losing his favorite wide receiver.

Great signing. He is very injury prone though.

It's a good deal for a good player... It's the Brady and Welker angle that is baffling and hilarious.

Put it this way... I'm way less scared of Amendola.

and no one was scared of Welker when he got traded to the Patriots from the Dolphins. Don't underestimate Amendola as he put up good numbers with Sam Bradford, who inspite of being a 1st overall draft pick, hasn't been a great QB in St. Louis.

This signing is so polarized for the Pats.

Don't overestimate Amendola until he proves otherwise.

Bottom line you have a head coach that made things personal with Welker. It pissed of Brady and the team reacted quickly to sign a replacement. Amendola is not Welker, he doesn't have the same smarts. Most of what they do is based on Welker reading and reacting. I hate the pats as much as the next bills fan, but i think this move hurts that team. Welker was a 100 catch plus a season guy. It wasn't only the system or we would have seen others do the same in that system. Secondly, Amendola is injury prone, when week in and week out welker was available.

Im happy to see this happen, but as far as a football decision just flat out stupid by the pats

I'm here in St Louis laughing at you guys who don't think Amendola will be just as dangerous as Welker.

If he stays healthy, the Pats won't miss him at all.

                              Remains to be seen.

The Pats were trying to cover their loss with Welker by signing Amendola quickly... And for more money they got less.

No way Amendola is better than Welker.
