All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
So we all know the same thing that one QB is standing slightly out in front of the rest. Would you be OK trading up to ensure the Bills get Geno Smith?
I think I would rather do this than reach at 8.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
Re: Would you be ok with trading up to land Smith?
With how FA has looked so far, I'm going to say absolutely not.
We need the draft picks to fill holes, so if we waste all those picks to jump up and get our franchise QB, we would be putting him in a terrible, terrible situation.

I would not trade up for any reason in this draft instead I stand pat and reach for Geno is there otherwise trade down and get another QB we value.
Re: Would you be ok with trading up to land Smith?
He is definitely worth it at 8, and he is a QB. That means if you want him, you trade up for him. We are 1-2 linemen and 1 more receiving threat away from having a competent offense, so I'm not worried about putting him in a bad situation. There are no guarantees next year. None. Even if there's a guy you like, there is absolutely no guarantee we're bad enough to get him. We have a chance at him... if he slides to 6, I'd be willing to give a pick to guarantee him, especially if he feel AZ is hot for him. It would be harder to justify trading up to 3, which would be the next competition. But I think you need to at least pick up the phone there.
Re: Would you be ok with trading up to land Smith?
If he was a sure thing like Luck or RGIII were thought to be last year, then definitely trade up for him. But he is a gigantic question mark and any team that takes him in the top 10 or 20 is taking a huge risk on him.
If he is there at 8 I have no problem with the Bills pulling the trigger and taking him. If they have to give up multiple draft picks or possibly 2014's first round pick to get him, absolutely not.
Re: Would you be ok with trading up to land Smith?
If you as a GM think that a player is a true "franchise QB", no price is too big, and you absolutely trade up to grab him. I'm personally not convinced that Smith is that guy, but I'm not doing the drafting, so I wouldn't do it.

The Bills only trade up for scrubs, Levitre was the exception.
That's the part of this that I just can't get my head around... We thought enough of him to TRADE UP, thereby giving up another player, only to let him go basically uncontested into free agency.
thats the clearest sign this wasn't a football decision.
