On this years S class:

“It’s a great safety class – best safety class I’ve seen in years,” said NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock. “Maybe not with a bunch of first-round guys that you’re going to run around and say, ‘That’s my guy,’ but there’s depth with this class.” Bills GM Buddy Nix agrees with Mayock’s assessment. “I think there’s a good number of safeties,” Nix told Buffalobills.com. “There are more safeties than I’ve seen that are graded. Sometimes I’ve seen us with not more than three or four (safeties) in the top four or five rounds and there are a lot more than that this time. I think it’s a deep position.”

On what he wants at TE:

“We need a young one at that position,” said Nix.

And what he planned to add from FA:

Nix also said they intend to target two or three players in free agency, and that’ll determine where they go in the draft.

On overdrafting a QB:

"If a guy heps your team, he starts for ya and heps you win games... it dudint get too high"

“I think quarterbacks go a round higher than you usually have them,” said Nix. ”You look at a guy and you’ve done enough work on him and your scouts have done enough work and you really know where the guy should fall and you have a good idea on how long it’s going to take him (to be ready to start in the NFL), and that determines what round you take him. But quarterbacks are so scarce in this league that folks take them early and I think sometimes you’ve got to be willing to do that.”

On what positions he thinks are strong:

WR, S, OL. LB'ers in the mid rounds and late rounds. Went on to say that if half the 1st round was OL and DL it would be good for the Bills since were solid in both those areas in his mind.

On being afraid to play a young QB:

“I’m not afraid to play a young player and I’m not afraid to play a young quarterback,” he said. ”I think you really look at all these guys and normally the ones, there are exceptions always, but the ones that come into good teams have got a chance to be good. The ones that come into really bad teams, I watched two last night in the Cincinnati-Philadelphia game, one second-year guy and one first-year guy. They struggled some. The ones that have the best guys around them usually do the best.”

On Free Agency:

“We’re going to be a player probably in free agency at some point,” said Nix. “It may not be the first day or two, but we’ll be looking for guys that can come in and help us and take some pressure off the draft. We think we can be active and go places.”

“You’re always looking for value, to get production. You hope it matches the value for what you’re going to get,” he said. “Everybody wants a bargain, and in free agency, if you’re going to play in free agency, there’s not a ton of bargains out there, especially if you’re playing at the top of the market.

“You just have to feel confident that what you’re paying for is what you’re getting. That’s always been a philosophy of mine, that the value of the production and the value of the ability, they match, and that you’re not overpaying for a lesser talented player.”

Maybe the guys we targetted in free agency were DeVito, Walker and Lawson. Yet I can't believe he wants to go into the draft with so many holes at OG, WR and LB when we already have holes at QB, TE.

We went after a handful of guys this last week. Most were signed before they made it to Buffalo, besides Lawson.
