When FA started, he had an excuse. He was waiting until all the big contracts were given out and a lot of other teams' cap money was used up, hoping to get some bargains.

I don't necessarily agree with that strategy, as it's not a very effective way to add talent, but at least I could understand where he was coming from.

Now, I just don't get it. All the big names are gone. There isn't a whole ton of cap money out there around the league, and there are still some talented players out there. Hell, there are a lot of guys out there who aren't the most talented but are definitely more talented than what we currently have. It makes absolutely no sense.

Stop it.

Just stop. Nix knows what he is doing.

Just stop ok.

You need to realize Nix.

Realize it, and love it.

If you''ll excuse me, I have to go now. There is a beep on the other line and I have to make a 3-way call.

Why don't you get it?

Letting Levitre walk should have given you exactly what you needed to know, with certainty, that the Bills don't know what they are doing.

Lol, I just called the Bills main number, and asked for Buddy Nix. I said it was extremely important. I used this number. (716) 648-1800. A pleasant woman answered on the first ring. She said and "who may I asked is calling" I said Mr. Mixxum. She said hold please. After a few minutes she came back on and said "Mr. Nix said he doesn't know any mixxum". LOL.

I dont think Nix believes himself.

I mean if he really meant to build through the draft, why let the NFL's highest rated pass blocking guard walk?

Did we not draft Levitre? Was he not still a young guy?

Nix doesnt even believe what he says, and if he does its irrelevent anyway because his actions especially regarding Levitre, don't mirror his words.

How can you say you build through the draft when push came to shove you let one of your really good young guys walk?

If we don't sign at least some damn role players within the next two days, I seriously don't know what direction this ship is even sinking in anymore. Hell we all know what he's going to do. He's going to do what he did last time we got a new HC, get rid of most of the talent, cut our cap down, and fill the roster with UDFA's and the 6 frigging draft picks we have.

Because it's worked SO well before.

That's the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I disliked him before. I despise him now. He's just some old school scout that has no business being an nfl gm in modern times.

Outside of the top QB's and other top FA's that signed on the first day nobody is really getting the money they thought they would this year in FA since the cap flattened out this year and will for the next couple years. Well except for maybe McKelvin who cashed in. We could've had him for a million or so cheaper had we waited comparing his money to other CB's who are better then him.

Guys like Avril only got 2 years and 13 million after he turned down 3 years and 30 million last year from the Lions last season. That strategy didn't work. There are still some decent players out there that could help the team this year or maybe beyond that could be had at a good price. Many of them would take two year deals at a reasonable price and hope to cash in again after that. It would help good teams but wouldn't put us over the top into a playoff run.

With how bad our team is going to be this year anyway it might be best in the long run and just go into the season with nothing but mainly rookies and most of our backups from last year as our starters for this season. Then a bunch of lower draft picks and undrafted rookies will end up taking their places and being our backups. Screw it and use the money to get Byrd under a long-term contract and make his salary sightly more this season so it will be cheaper in the future years.

I guess what's the difference if we win 3 games or 6 games if we're going to suck anyway. We might as well bottom out and get a Top 3-5 draft pick next year and if we miss out on our QB this year then get him next year. Either way we would have a much better draft position to get better players or MAYBE even trade down for more picks for once to try and help rebuild this pathetic roster.

I said it from the beginning. There was a reason he was never anything more then a scout and never made it to the highest level of his profession as a GM until 70 years old when a crappy team like the Bills finally offered him one on the cheap compared to other good GM's.

If anybody else thought anything of him he would've been a GM long before 70 years old. He's been in the NFL scouting ranks for decades now. With all the GM's who get fired some other owner with a much better track record would've offered him a GM position. Hell even the other crappy teams and owners like the Bills never considered him. That should tell you all you need to know.

lol at bottoming out. Again? seriously lmao!

Do you think this is a team that can compete this year or is just a few pieces away? Who the hell cares if we win a few games or keep the status quo of 6 wins give or take without ever getting any better for the long-term. That's been the Bills for the past 6 years now.

I'm sure Indy is happy they didn't get some older QB that could've gotten them 5 wins and they lost out on Andrew Luck. Or even in our case there are many years we missed out on many good QB's or players because we won 6 games instead of 4. Had we lost one more game 9 years ago we could've had Roethlisberger instead of Lee Evans.

Unless Marrone ends up as the next Belichick AND we get lucky to get a franchise QB who plays great as a rookie I don't think we have to worry about that anyway. The Bills are going to do that all on their own with dismantling an already crappy roster without anybody legitimate to fill their spots along with losing one of our best players in Levitre. Unless the above happens the Bills should be a 4 win team without any other help.

Ok, I understand the frustration for not adding to the team, and I will admit i'm frustrated too. The Bills are out scouting every top rated QB in this draft trying to get as much information about them possible. What is more important to the team? Finally finding a QB worth a damn for this team or signing the likes of Brandon Gibson. The QB controls so much about NFL football that them scouting and getting the QB right is way more important than adding any marginal player at this point.

This team never bottomed out.

We've been riding out the wave of mediocrity by applying a band aid approach to fix things for a decade now.

This roster is so piss poor and void of talent 90% of it could be turned over and the result on the field would stay the same.

We're not anywhere near plug a guy or 3 in and we're a contender.

He's following through with his inept plan.

Basically, "stick to the plan for the sake of sticking to the plan, even though it clearly isn't working." That strategy got Lindy Ruff fired from the Sabres.

I mean, it took 16 years of only making the playoffs 8 times and a 4 year stretch of 2 years without playoffs and 2 years with first round playoff exits. But it eventually got him fired.

The problem isn't the lack of signing free agents in one offseason.

The problem is the team hasn't been to the playoffs for going on FOURTEEN years.

Theres a whole slew of poor personnel decisions that contributed to this accomplishment.

Sure sure that's what Chris Brown said. Too busy right? Can't be in 2 places at the same time right? Well 31 other teams are doing more than 1 thing at a time. I didn't know our whole team consists of only Nix and Whaley who can do anything.

I was just about to reply the same type of statement. He acts like you can't focus on scouting prospects and free agents at the same time. I always thought that teams did both. I guess not. With these worthless people in place that they actually call an NFL front office I wouldn't be surprised though.

At this point in FA and with how bad our team is I could really care less about any FA's we bring in. Unless they are one year deals or cheap contracts for younger players that might help the team for more then this year then it doesn't matter. This roster is such a disaster it won't matter anyway and if we're not willing to keep our best player in FA over money then why go sign a bunch of scrubs with it. Fill in most of the gaps with drafted and undrafted rookies at this point and save the money. It doesn't matter if we win 3 games or 6 games again at this point.

It's pretty sad when it's already been 13 years since you sniffed the playoffs and you still don't have a roster that is even close to being a playoff team let alone a major competitor.

We're starting over again and if we're LUCKY it will be three more years before this team could possibly see the playoffs again. It wouldn't be as bad if we weren't the ONLY team in the NFL to miss the playoffs since we started a new century.

There is no basis for anybody to make fun of any other teams in the NFL along with their organizations. We are the bottom of the barrel. Just because we haven't had the #1 pick like other teams and we're usually picking around #8-10 in most of the years doesn't make us better then ANY team over the past decade or even the past several years. At least them teams have been able to turn it around and at least make the playoffs and improve their rosters. We're like a newly gutted team that has to start over except that we haven't had a good team in the first place.

MANNY LAWSON TOLD ME THAT YOU, OR SOMEONE, CALLED HIM AT 12:01 ON THE FIRST DAY OF EARLY FREE-AGENCY NEGOTIATIONS, AND THAT THAT IMPRESSED HIM. DID YOU DO THAT WITH THE INTENTION TO WIN HIM OVER, AND DID YOU TRY THAT WITH OTHERS THAT DIDN’T WORK?
“We had two or three or four guys targeted, and he was a priority for us. Because we didn’t have a true SAM linebacker on the team. So we targeted him, and we did target another one or two. But basically the top two or three free agents were on our team already — Jairus (Byrd, safety) and Leodis (McKelvin, cornerback/returner).”

could they be looking to extend some of the guys on the team?Wood? Strike up a long term deal with Byrd? :idunno:

We have things we have to do, and things we have to plan to do to keep our own guys, which we will have some, that in the summer we’ll try to get done before the season, or early in the season. And we have to keep those things in mind.”

Nix: Still work to do in free agency

“You have to plug holes in free agency, and that’ll continue for the rest of the spring,” said Nix. ”There’ll be guys available and there’ll be guys that’ll fit, and we’ll plug them in.”

http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2013/03/21/nix-still-work-to-do-in-free-agency/

I'm okay with this. We went panic buying last year with Mario and Anderson and haven't gotten our investment back yet.

Yeah let's go clearance shopping. Sure they won't be as high quality or maybe slightly damaged, but it'll be a good deal and we'll just "plug them in."

So he says he had 3-4 guys targeted and they got one. So, he's at 25%, 33% tops. Wow. I'm impressed.

As far as top FA's being Leodis and Byrd.... Leodis over Levitre? Really? And how exactly are we going to improve without adding talent?
