Would be a good signing. Could create matchup problems if Chandler can come back to form in a two TE set with Spiller coming out of the backfield.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000153162/article/report-fred-davis-buffalo-bills-brass-have-dinner

Free-agent tight end Fred Davis has been linked to the Cleveland Browns and his former team, the Washington Redskins, on his journey through the open market. Now a third suitor has entered the picture......

Davis had dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday night with Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone, general manager Buddy Nix, assistant GM Doug Whaley and a gaggle of team brass.

We haven't heard much on the Davis front in recent days, but the Bills -- silent in free agency up to now -- make plenty of sense from the angle of need after Scott Chandler tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Week 16.

Davis, of course, has injury issues of his own. He's an electrifying play-maker when healthy, but still on his way back from the Achilles' injury that ended his 2012 season. With the relatively unknown Lee Smith as Buffalo's only viable tight end behind Chandler, Davis would give quarterback [fill-in-the-blank] an exciting target in Marrone's up-tempo offense.

Davis is a good player, when healthy. The big concern is he is one toke away from a 1-year suspension. As much as his injury is mentioned, the real concern with him is his off-field actions.

He also had an incident with a girl he knows, and it ends up she is suing him for dumping a drink on her at a nightclub and assaulting her. It is being tried in civil court, and Davis plans to represent himself. The lady sounds pretty much crazy, but the whole situation makes you question his judgement. On top of the weed issues, it seems a risk.

If they don't guarantee him being money it would be a great signing, but if they tie themselves to him with a bigger contract it could blow up in their faces.

If his Achilles is back to 100% he's a top ten TE in the league. Damn right we should bring him in.

whoever we have playing Qb will need a good Tight End as a security blanket... especially if we have a rookie at the position. Makes sense to bring in a talented player like Davis

Yeesh, after reading his wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Davis_%28tight_end%29 I can see why he wasn't signed right off the bat by teams.

At this point with not many good options left in UFA you take the gamble. I mean there's no doubt that a healthy and clean Fred Davis is easily better than Lee Smith or any other TE on the current roster. Yet I will say one things the management of this team does seem to know how to work the cap so I don't think we would see a foolish contract. As us foolish fans were calling fro Fitz to be cut immediately but they knew if waited long enough they could separate his contract across two seasons vs one if waited cutting him or who knows maybe they made an honest effort to get Fitz to change his contract but he wouldn't budge. So give me Fred Davis AND DHB AND Manny Lawson and I'd say we had a solid off season. Yet I'd still like a veteran LG in play before the draft too.

Can't see him coming to town after a meeting in Washington to do anything but take a physical and sign on the dotted line. If healthy, this is a major get IMO. Especially with a rookie QB coming in

All he asked for was corroboration on news regarding an FA, dealing with the Buffalo Bills, on a forum, dedicated to the Buffalo Bills.

Your response wasn't warranted. There is no reason to be a snide ******* simply because someone wanted to corroborate something.

And yea, we need a better pure receiving threat at the TE position.

FA's must love the Bills.

Free trip to Buffalo, which isn't the most spectacular destination but Niagara Falls (read: Canadian ballet) is close by and the bars are open til 4 am, plus a free dinner, and it drives up demand and increases the contract they get elsewhere.

As to what DB said and you implied, seems like the visit is on Wednesday.

Hope he can get over his off the field ways, but him and Chandler splitting the seam with Stevie, TJ, (whoever) and CJ and Fred in the backfield? Sounds good to me. That being said before the mouth-breathing chorus kicks in "we need someone to throw to them" blah blah yeah I know, but those are great weapons for a young QB.

I think this is a good move for both Davis and Buffalo. The uncertainty around his health will allow us to get a better deal on him, and regardless of who we have playing QB we're going to need a reliable TE. I hope this is a deal that we can work out. It makes us a better football team and fills a hole so we can focus draft attention elsewhere.
