Just watched something on nfl network. apparently the new CBA gives the first round picks a 5 year contract and 4 years to everyone else...or shorter.

So their arguement was "if there isn't really a sure fired starter, but you need a qb, taking one in the first round means that you buy one more year on the contract. which means if they are taking time to develop, if they develop the way you want, then you get one more year on the back end when they are performing."

hadn't see that on the boards....thought it was food for thought. if there is someone you kind of like, it just might be worth reaching if you think that you can get him up to speed in 2-3 years.

Good point. And it would be much better to draft a QB by the end of the first rnd rather than high in the 2nd rnd. So if they don't draft him at #8 & they can trade back a little great, if they cant find a trade partner & don't take the QB at #8 they will need to trade back into the first rnd to get maximum value as well as the better chance to get the guy they want.

i think teams with more picks and less needs can pull this move off. the bills reality is they need 4 of their 6 picks to hit this year. and as a result, they can't be trading stuff away. especially since their 1-4 picks next year will be high.

I dont care if they trade their whole draft away. If there is a QB they think (I know they dont think all that well) is going to be the future of this franchise you get him period. IF that means taking a WR or G at #8 and then trading the rest of their draft to get back into bottom of 1st to get said QB then do it if he is the one

Why do the Bills need to hit on 4 of 6 THIS year? Marrone is a NEW hire, he will get at least two years to prove himself. If the Bills trade their entire draft away, but HIT on the QB, this will be a SUCCESSFUL draft in EVERYONES eyes.

because they have no depth on WR, OL, LB, CB, QB, arguably RB because T. Choice sucks, and freddie is coming off an injury and is over 30. You got six picks and more than 6 holes and your signings have all been for journeymen or worse.

Nail these picks or marrone's 3 year period is going to be made exponentially harder next year.

What would make Marrones job exponentially harder is the lack of a GOOD QB. Not depth.

I would trade all our picks this year for Andrew Luck. That means our team stays as is at the positions you mentioned but we have our franchise qb for years.

....Or it means you get the best player and get an extra year out of them. :idunno:

A WASTED year without a decent QB on the team. One year closer to the end of the rookie contract.

...Or, they didn't reach this year on the off chance he needed 5 years to develop instead of 3 or 4 and got a good one next year without reaching.
