While his physical state remains strong, the Detroit Free Press' Helene St. James reports (http://www.freep.com/article/20130331/SPORTS05/303310233/1053/sports05) that his mental health has drastically deteriorated. Mark Howe tells the paper there was a noticeable decline in his dad's memory this past summer, to the point now where he's down to "two minutes, maybe five on a good day" of recalling events.
