My criticism of Vanek has to do with his performance on the ice. What he does off the ice has nothing to do with it. Buffalo has had lots of "classy" athletes who couldn't get it done on the field/ice.

Vanek gets it done on the ice ... he just isn't the guy who is going to step into the leadership role they need filled on this team. I guess they needed to learn that. Now it's time to do something about it.

It's not the most important part though. If you're a professional athlete, the most important part is winning. If you're an amateur, the most important part is having fun.
