we should sign him without a question. hes still productive. Fins cut him to get younger at the position (prob a move they didnt need to make). Dansby, can cover, blitz and tackle. Without question he would be an improvement as one of the MLB

If he's reasonably priced then it helps smooth over some of the rough patches this offseason.

hi, i'm carlos dansby, not a single other team has come to claim me. i was wonder if i could sign here so i can collect another check for 2 years before i am out of football? I understand you like making that transaction.

Who do we have on the roster at MLB that is better then Dansby?

For a 1-2 year deal sure. Would help alleviate some pressure on the draft a little.

First off Karlos not Carlos.

Secondly he's had numerous visits, mostly with contenders. They just didn't want to pay him as much as he wanted, maybe that has changed now that they passed.

He has had plenty of interest from good teams.

At this point Dansby isnt going to claim any big deal, so it's a solid depth move, potentially starter material. 2 years 6-7 mill?

Would love it if he came that cheap.

He just used as leverage by Cincy so his self stock may have taken a shot.

I think that's the game the Bills are in. They're not going to give him more than 3-4 a season.

Just so you all know it was said weeks ago there was no more talent in the FA market.

1 year deal and no more. That is the norm over the last few weeks. No one is handing out more than 1 year 2-3 mil.

I like this move, a lot.
Wouldn't have a problem giving him 3-4 million for 2 years either.
I think the guy can still play, and will do so well for at least the next couple of seasons.
Fits a need, and should be a good fit inside, as well.

I think we will need to give him a longer contract then 1 year. I can see the Ravens stepping up after Mcclain was busted yesterday

Dansby is a good player and would immediately be the Bills best linebacker. The question is though, given his age, is the team better off developing someone younger - understanding that they will take their lumps for a year or two -so that that individual can be ready to go when the team conceivably will be in position to actually contend?

looks like the rookie wage cap that was supposed to help veterans make more, is kind of blowing up in their face. teams on the whole seem willing to gamble with the draft first than sign mid level to bottom level players. or at least that's the case this year.

the only guys doing well are the very elite and a couple guys who are helping teams get to their minimum annual level.

Best to get Barnett and Dansby. And some youth in the draft wouldn't hurt, youth learning under mentorship. If you get younger guys later in the draft, riding some pine/spot duty and playing STs would be great for them.

Not sure what you mean by "Coverage guy". In nickle situations last season it was Scott and Barnett. This year its looking like bradham and Scott but dansby can cover as well. Bradham is essentially taking barnetts role over. Scott is actually what you would call the "coverage guy" as he is only used in passing situations at the linebacker position.

It would not surprise me at all if Barnett comes back on a 1yr. vet minimum contract if he is not able to find a team he wants to go to in FA. He has been getting Luke warm interest right now at best.

I thought the same thing til an interview they did with Bradham couple days ago. Gist of it was that he is poised to flourish in this new D due to his versatility.

He'd be a nice fit for one of the inside backer spots. Might help Shep and Bradham raise their games. His price would have to come down considerably for it to make sense. Mario Williams already stole enough money.

The NFLPA is already making suggestions that collusion is going on. It appears to be an issue that will come to the forefront in a year or two.

Then again you have teams like Tennessee willing to throw stupid money at a guard.

They're crazy if they think there's collusion. There's no collusion, just logic. Why pay mega bucks for a guy on the downside when you can pay less for a rookie without much dropoff and a full career ahead of him? Then spend the extra bucks on the positions where it's really necessary, like QB.

His best asset remains his ability to play the run.

Our biggest weakness last year was linebackers inability to play the run.

Love this move if we can get him.

i don't think it's collusion. you have 4 year contracts with rookies where they can't break the contract like other players. and they are cheaper, less wear and tear. it's kind of unfortunate that what was supposed to help older players is kind of killing them.

i wonder if we'll see a deterioration in the game with such an emphasis on youth and not veteran ability...who knows. something to keep an eye out for.

He struggled somewhat in coverage last year. High completion against percentage (81 I believe). Has only 1 pick in last three years. Not like when in Arizona - and that was a long time ago. That part of his game is not going to improve with age either.
He is still a great thumper and a very savvy player. Won't beat himself getting out of position or making bonehead reads. Good roll model for Shep and Bradham. Can flourish for years as an inside 3/4 backer. With Branch his signing would help do wonders for our run D.

Thanks for the observations. Pass defense - eh. The rule changes, at least to my mind, discount LB coverage skills. Nice to hear about him keeping in position and reading what's what is going on.
