If it had to be a QB, it was him. They picked the best athlete with the most upside. I'm fine with this.

Hell yes!!!! Super psyched. The Bills obviously had their eye on him at QB the whole time because not one off the board until then. There can be a good arguement about Geno made her, but EJ knows this Bills scheme already. He's been running the **** out of multiple set no huddle for years. I had expected the Eagles to grab him in tge top of the second and think the Bills might have been concerned with the same. They wanted him and pulled the trigger after getting the extra picks. I like the move.

Not sure he's a Day 1 guy but he's got lots of potential. Physically gifted and a great film room/white board guy. The issue is holding the ball and processing what he sees. If he speeds up he'll be fine but that is a huge IF.

Says you. The Bills had their choice of the quarterbacks in this draft. They said there were two guys who they thought were franchise QBs. Manuel was their guy and was also the guy who I thought was going to end up being the best of the bunch. Be happy, be very happy.

When the Bills signed Kevin Kolb, I said it would shift the Bills focus in drafting a QB. Instead of having to be concerned with drafting a QB that was the most NFL ready (Nassib or Barkley), they could draft the QB that they felt had the highest ceiling. That is exactly what they did. That doesn't mean they made the right pick. Only time will tell. Manuel is going to have a learning curve because Buffalo's offense is going to be a whole lot more complicated than the one Manuel ran at Florida State. There is no guarantee he will ever get it, but Nix has proven he's a bit of a riverboat gambler. I like the pick.

In some ways Manuel is Nix's Cam Newton: similar size, similar athleticism (if not quite to Cam's level), similar arm strength. Manuel is actually better in some ways. He's a little ahead of where Newton was coming out of college at passing the ball. He's somewhat smarter, and at least has the appearance of having a much better character.

I'm very surprised & happy they picked Manuel. I myself preferred him out of the QBs out there, but I thought they were going to go with Geno Smith. I'm pleasantly surprised. DB is right though. He's got some learning to do, but like Tiger said, he's got the most upside and they worked most of the QBs twice so I think they should know exactly what they are getting and clearly they went based on potential also. With our 2nds we need a WR and an OG...

psubills62
04-25-2013, 09:23 PM
I'll root for him, but I don't expect much.

jbisset
04-25-2013, 09:24 PM
Hope he more Kelly than Losmans. He better be a franchise QB. We need one. None of these QBs were Andrew Luck coming out of school. I do not know who, if anyone will be a franchise QB from this class. Let's just hope we got one. We need one.

I wonder if we could have traded down again (5 - 8 spots) and still get E.J?

EJ Manuel may be a bust.

I love the pick but I will admit that he be a may bust.

However, if he is developed right, we are going to love this kid.

I don't even want to see him play until after the Bye Week.

For those last 5 weeks I expect nothing.

However, if you believe in Marrone, and you give him 2+ years like me, Marrone was just given a gift.

Be patient.

This should be fun.

Thats pure and simple the best explanation I've heard. We've been searching for a franchise guy for 20 years, no point in drafting yet another low ceiling guy like Barkley or Nassib. We have Kolb for that purpose. Any of these guys are a dice roll, but there's arguably the most cash in the Ej Manuel pot.

If he speeds up he'll be fine but that is a huge IF.I think the Bills tried to walk a tightrope here. They knew that picking him at #8 was a huge reach, and didn't want to do that. They also feared he would be drafted before their pick at #41. If they traded down too far in the first, they risked whatever second round team that wanted him trading up above the Bills and snatching him. They reached a little to make sure they got the guy they wanted. I think that's an acceptable strategy, at least when you're drafting a QB. Ultimately, it depends on whether he pans out and develops into a solid starter, but I'm not going to blame the Bills for trying.

Oh noes ESPN gave us an F because we didn't draft who they expected us too and lost a schload of money. The horror of it all. Tell you what, in 3 or 4 years we might all be saying Manuel is the biggest bust we've drafted since JP Losman or we might be saying he's the second coming of Jim Kelly. However, grading an entire draft after one pick is asinine. We had a need at QB and the Bills combined BPA and need and drafted the guy who they felt would get the job done. If we don't rush EJ and let him learn the game, and I think that's the plan, I think we might be saying this is the best qb we drafted in 30 years.

Why because they didn't pick Nassib like they stated they would for the past week because Marrone coached him? I'm not saying Manuel will be good or bad but who cares what they grade it. I've seen them grade some of our other drafts pretty well and we see how that worked out.

This post reflects my thoughts exactly. Picking Manuel at 8 would have been a "reach," but now we gained an extra 2nd rounder and it should off-set some of the damage if Manuel ends up a Bust. But the Bills need to hit on both 2nd rounders in order for it to be an acceptable draft.

I would have preferred another trade-down, if possible, but it's still better than picking him at 8.
