agreed. brad smith at his contract is pretty expendable.

He should get cut because of his salary alone. There is no justification for it, and there never has been. Now, he's strictly a WR (as if he was ever anything else for this team, really)...although he's listed as QB/WR on the Bills official site. What a joke. No way in hell should he take time away from some of those other guys. His production at WR has been extremely poor his entire career, but that's because he's not really a receiver. He's not really ANYTHING.

Kick his ass out of town FINALLY, take his money and give it to somebody that actually has a position that he's good at.

Average return skills? Brad Smith is an above average kickoff return man. Granted in today's NFL kickoff specialists aren't a hot commodity. He does offer up better size than Goodwin and far more proven than Easley. So if I'm ranking my top 5 it would be as documented below. I admit that Woods to me is good player but don't see as him a great player and why have reservations about him going into the draft. I see him as a later year Derek Mason type in that he can move the chains but not going to get you big plays and with guy. Goodwin is a track guy who might stick around a year or two to prove he's more than just that yet when we took him it felt like the Bills were trying to say take notice we got ourselves a speedy WR like Tevon Austin so top being so critical of our trade with St. Louis. I would have preferred we looked at DE or OLB with where e picked him as not sure we need another speedy WR with Graham in the fold toss in CJ can be lined up wide if keep Freddie in the backfield. Then with our 5th or 6th pick we could have taken a bigger WR to develop and maybe become what we always envisioned from Easley.

Seriously, this guy doesn't even have 1,000 yards in receiving over his career, and he's been in the league for 7 years.

The Wildcat has proven to be a momentary gimmick in the NFL, and Miami's production has never been been matched that one year. Smith ran about 1 time per game in Buffalo, and it's been almost exclusively on 1st and 2nd down. We don't need that, especially since we have a QB that can run now in EJ Manuel. Smith has thrown TWO passes in Buffalo, and they were both intercepted...true fact. If he ever lines up behind center again, I'll **** a brick. The guy is just not a QB in any way, shape or form.

We have better kick/punt returners on our team than him...a depth of them. I couldn't care less about what else he does on special teams.

The guy is basically useless, and he's scheduled to make $3,750,000 this year. He'd be a waste of a roster spot even without this outrageous figure. I think that, if we cut him, there will be $1 million in dead money, but that still gives us $2,750,000 additional money to spend.

This guy still being on the team bothers me to no end. What a scam.

we already has a $4mm return man in mckelvin. no need to tie up more money to a position we can't really utilize because no one punts to us.

My prediction is that the plays Smith took running the wildcat will not be taken by EJ Manuel running the read option while he learns the WCO. Kolb is going to start this coming season, but Manuel will get on the field some.

Easley doesn't deserve a roster spot more than Brad Smith.

At least Smith has done something in this league which is more than Easley can lay claim to.

Smith is getting paid good money to be useless. This is make or break for Easley. At least there's hope Easley could show something. Smith? I've seen enough.

With what we did over the weekend both should be cut, tbh.

Yes he does. He makes 500,000 a year compared to Smith's 4,000,000

I would have cut Brad Smith weeks ago. Saving millions in cap room is just a bonus.

So 500k for zero contribution is greater than 4m for little contribution?

Interesting.

He better not, otherwise we wasted at least two of three acquisitions made over the weekend.

If it has no long term effects on the salary cap, I say keep him around for camp competitions and then cut him. The only reason he was on the roster last year was his 3rd string QB versatility, the lack of true depth at WR, and his return abilites. He just OK or worse at all of those things but not good at just one of them. Smith has been dead weight for some time. I'm all for cutting him loose.

Wouldn't Manuel, Kolb, Jackson be a better 1,2,3 at QB?

Brad Smith seems like a good guy, and he probably just shortened his career by playing for Gailey. I would have to think he gets cut. Especially if that money can be used to grab Dansby or keep Byrd. Nice guy, but there just isn't any room for him any more.

And as for Easley...are we going to do this again?

I just don't see brad make the 53. He is a good player but the bills are going young and they have enough young talent at the WR position that is going to make the final roster. Besides if you shed is salary (2.75mil) and lindells salary (2.1mil) now that the team invested in Hopkins then combined with the cap space available left after rookie signings the bills would be in a solid position to give Byrd and wood their extensions. Remember the bills don't extend without subtracting first. Just the way they always do business.

If they do go with 6, will Easley be the 6th ? At 6'5" 215 lbs. Brandon Kaufman had some crazy numbers in 2012, 93 catches, 1,850 yds. 19.9 avg. and 16 TD's. Sure he played at Eastern Washington, but you can't ignore his production. He ran a little slow at the combine, but improved to a 4.57 at his pro day, which also was in terrible weather conditions. Don't know if he'll make the final 53, but he could be the "big" receiver that the Bills have been looking for.
When he was matched up against 1st round pick Desmond Trufant in 2011 he recorded 10 catches for 140 yds. so it's not like he can't perform against good corners.

I can't see any reason why they would keep Brad Smith.

If Smith keeps doing well as a receiver in Hackett's new system, I think think he stands a pretty good chance of making the team. He could be the 1 WR that prevents one of these newly signed undrafted free agent receivers from making the final 53 at the end of pre-season. He's also still a wildcat threat, and has value on special teams.
