New regime in Buffalo opted to keep tight end Dorin Dickerson (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5839/dorin-dickerson) around, via an exclusive rights free agency tender.

But coach Doug Marrone had a new plan for Dickerson. Marrone envisions Dickerson as a receiver.

So Dickerson was moved. So why was he back working with the tight ends this week during OTAs?

Per Chris Brown of the team’s official website, it was a combination of injuries and preferences. Specifically, Dickerson asked to return (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2013/05/31/dickerson-asked-to-go-back-to-te/).

“Dorin Dickerson we thought would have a good opportunity to go to receiver and play for us,” Marrone said. “He came to us wanting to go back to the tight end position. So I think we have a player right now that can really do a good job of playing both positions for us.”

Dickerson realizes the value of versatility. For guys not among the starters, the more they can do, the more likely they’ll be to stick around.

Dickerson realizes the value of versatility versatility in DD's case is a euphemism for 'lack of talent' ....

Sprayed coffee onto my desk when reading the comment below, in reference to the title of the article. " Dorin Dickerson does double duty at tight end, receiver."

Nice alliteration. Kinda sounds like a porno

That is NOT double duty. Wide receiver is an end. Tight end is an end. It's not even, technically, a different position. It's just lining up differently in a formation.

Double duty would be playing offense and defense.

One thing this guy is good at is making a qb look bad by dropping passes.

George Blanda would tell you that that's not the only way to do it.

The physical talent is there, which is why he's been around this long, kind of like Marcus Easley.

The guy ran a 4.4 flat 40 at the combine with a 43" vertical. They're just hoping they can do something with it.

I hope both guys realize this is their last shot at it.

I'm not really seeing the point of bouncing him back and forth between wideout and tight end. He's way too small to be a blocking TE, so I say just make him a receiving fullback and be done with it. We had Larry Centers for a while and he was great for us.

The guy has just been doing whatever coaches wanted him to do his entire career. He can play anywhere but just doesn't do great at any. Jack of all trades, master of none.

if focused, he can be a dangerous hb

Well now DD is done, Not the Dude just gave his stamp of approval where the player can never succeed.

that being said, i thought he had a couple plays last year that were significant. I don't see his size being much help in the blocking, nor him being a sure handed guy that you could dump off to him. Perhaps, he's a guy who can help on WR screens to set some blocks down field quickly.

There is a 0.0% chance we move him to halfback. I wouldn't mind a few plays where he takes handoffs though.

In other words he's just a guy and probably unemployed sooner than later unless he could find a niche on special teams and then he might warrant a little more time to toil on the depth chart until he's too old/expensive to keep around.

no, h-back. like delanie walker, or a moving te. it's a fast te, who can block and be quick also. like james casey. dickerosn can fill that role in a big way and cause major problems. not saying he will, just that he has the obvious potential. so in our pro set (stevie, graham, chandler.... dickerson, spiller in the backfield) you can literally go from a power 2 te set, to a 5 wr set.

Only guy other than AQ Shipley and Mark Capuano to get a paycheck in the NFL from my home town so props to him no matter what they make him do.

My home town boasts Scott Hernandez and Bill Hurley as players but a saving grace is in the coaching ranks in Jim McNally.
