    RIP Deacon Jones

As a defensive lineman with the Los Angeles Rams in the '60s, Jones was one of the "fearsome foursome." He's also credited with coining the word "sack" for what's done to a quarterback when he's tackled behind the line of scrimmage. Jones is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

David "Deacon" Jones, a hall of fame defensive lineman credited with coining the term "sack" for how he would tackle opposing teams' quarterbacks, has died.
    He was 74.

        RIP.

Holy snikies, Deacon Jones had 173 sacks in 190 career games, that's 79 less games played than Bruce w/ 200 sacks.

They didn't count sacks for years. If so, no one would have come close to him. I remember NFL films counting 16 in one game.

Of course, he could use the head slap back then.. but that DL of the Rams with Lundy, Grier & Olson was amazing at bringing the pressure. He may be indeed the best pass rusher in history.

RIP to one of the greatest players ever.

He had 26 sacks in one year, during a 14 game season.
            Too bad it was unofficial.

The head slap was a pretty devastating move and helped him get a lot of those sacks.
