Buffalo Bills receiver Stevie Johnson told The Buffalo News on Thursday that the back strain that has been bothering him this offseason was actually a slight fracture of one of his vertebrae.

Johnson said he suffered the injury in March while filming a video of one of his workout sessions for the team's website.

Stevie Johnson reveals back injury was a slight fracture

Johnson told me this morning he fractured his L-5 vertebra in March while filming a workout session for BuffaloBills.com.

"It got to the point where, 'It's got to be something more than a strain or something' because every time I sit down it's hurting," Johnson said. "Every time I stand up it's hurting. I lay down, it's hurting. I went through rehab and it wasn't helping.

"So I got the MRI, and it was a slight fracture."

Johnson said he was given a cortisone shot and an epidural as part of his recovery.

Johnson's offseason workout approach came under fire when he told radio host Jim Rome his training consisted mostly of basketball and road work.

The Bills wanted to show fans that Johnson really does take training seriously by filming a session. Johnson said the back injury occurred while doing a power-rope exercise.

Hmmm, he'll still play every game that counts.

John Murphy denied that the video was for the team website. On his podcast last night he said they were out filming a bunch of different players working out, including Spiller, but the workouts were not for the team. Essentially, they just happened to attend some of the workouts that would have been going on whether or not the team's film crew was there. These were not separate workouts done for the team or its site. That is per John Murphy. He also said that it was reported on PFT and that they did not have the story portrayed accurately. This ESPN report sounds a bit different though. This one says that's how Stevie explained it to them.
