Re: Philly Buys Out Danny Briere

Well, Philly bought out the expensive FA they got from us. Hopefully we will reciprocate and buy out the expensive FA we got from them.

As far as Briere, well, there's no point in bringing him back to the Sabres. He may have a few good years left and some team may grab him to try to get to that next level, but he's definitely on the downside. The Sabres need youth, not expensive, aging vets. That being said, we really could have used Briere the last 4 years or so. I doubt we'd have 3 playoff misses and 2 first round exits if he was still on the team.

      I always liked Briere.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
      It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Bring him back to retire as a Sabre.... Publicity stunt... if he does well good, if not, it was only a publicity stunt.

Meanwhile Buy Out Leino... send him packin'.....

It depends on the cap situation- if we move Vanek and Miller and buy out Leino, we'll have cap space up the ass and can afford it. If we keep those two guys, then we will need the cap space to lock up the guys we have that are worth it and hopefully attract some younger FA's.

Plus, I'd be shocked if Briere wants to come back, given the state of this team. He's 35 so his next contract is likely his last. He'll probably want to go to a contender and get two or three more shots at a Cup before he retires. He'll be long gone by the time this team is ready to compete for a Cup.

            He'd be a great 3rd line C for a lot of teams.

a like 5'10" 180 lbs checking C not a recipe for success. He needs to be top 6 to be worth it to anyone.

His play doesn't garner top line minutes anymore... not too mention he spent a lot of this season hurt.

We don't need Danny Briere or any new players for that matter.

We need a mad scientist so we can clone Gerbs 22 times.

Even if we suck, we'll be fun to watch.

Since we are cloning Gerbe, can we make them 8 inches taller and 60 lbs heavier?

I was a big fan of making an ALL FAT GUYS team.

I would love to have Danny Boy back. He's getting up there in age, but IMO, he's still got 2-3 years left
