The Green Bay Packers have announced LB Torrance Marshall has been suspended without pay by the team for the first four games of the regular season for violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He's eligible to return to the team's active roster on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

SportsLine.com's Jay Glazer reports Minnesota Vikings TE Byron Chamberlain has been hit with a four-game suspension by the NFL for violation of the league's policy on banned stimulants. According to sources, Chamberlain tested positive for Ephedra. The sources said that Chamberlain was using a product he believed to be Ephedra-free, but misread the label.

Bengals.com reports the Cincinnati Bengals have signed LB Khalid Abdullah (Mars Hill College) to a three-year contract. Abdullah was the team's fifth-round draft choice in this year's draft. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Updating previous reports, the Star-Ledger reports negotiations between the New York Jets and the agent for rookie DT Dewayne Robertson continue to move slowly, and there is a chance the first-round pick could be a training camp holdout, according to a person close to Robertson. The Jets are apparently waiting for the market to be set so Robertson, drafted fourth overall, can be paid according to the players selected around him. The club is keeping an eye on talks between the Dallas Cowboys and CB Terence Newman, taken fifth, and the Houston Texans and WR Andre Johnson, selected third.

Updating previous reports, Connor Ennis, of the Associated Press, reports the NFL Network, a 24-hour-a-day NFL T.V. network launching this fall, will air its first programming on Election Day, November 4, at 8 p.m. EST. Rich Eison, of SportsCenter, will host the flagship program entitled "NFL Total Access." The network, run by the NFL, will provide constant NFL programming made up of shows featuring highlights, analysis, pre-season games, and archived NFL Films material "The launch of a network that celebrates the NFL is a tremendously exciting project," network president and CEO Steve Bornstein said. "Our mission is to deliver programming that honors the NFL's rich tradition and captures the excitement that turns on millions of fans." NFL Network will be carried on DirecTV's basic service.

According to Adam H. Beasley, of BaltimoreRavens.com, Baltimore Ravens rookie QB Kyle Boller expects to be signed before the beginning of training camp on July 28, and does not expect to miss any practice time because of a hold-out. He cannot practice with the team if a contract has not been signed by then. Boller will be competing for the starting job with fellow QBs Chris Redman and Anthony Wright.

Beasley, of BaltimoreRavens.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens' coaches have said CB Tom Knight (hamstring) must show during training camp that he has fully recovered from his injury, or he will lose his nickel spot to CB Alvin Porter. "It would be one thing if it was Chris McAlister or someone of that nature that you just say, 'We know what we've got, we know the long term,'" defensive coordinator Mike Nolan said. "We don't know that about Tommy. Tommy has to prove that to us. He's got to get healthy."

Sean Jensen, of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings RB Michael Bennett (foot) has decided to undergo a procedure that could allow him to play this season. After an evaluation revealed that the surgically-implanted screw in his left foot had broken, Bennett has decided to immobilize his foot with a cast for the next month. Rather than having another surgery, the Vikings RB hopes the month off will stimulate healing and allow him to return to the field this year. "There's no guarantee it will work," head trainer Chuck Barta said. "But it gives him an opportunity to come back this year." In the best-case scenario, Bennett would be able to play by October.

Updating ongoing reports, Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Michael Pittman received permission to accompany the Buccaneers to Japan for their August 2 exhibition game. Pittman's attorney, Joel Thompson, also said prosecutors are not opposed to delaying the probation revocation hearing set for July 21. Thompson has filed a plea for continuance, hoping to delay the hearing until after the football season.

In an interview with SF49ers.com, San Francisco 49ers CB Jason Webster (ankle) said he is glad he went ahead and had surgery on his injured ankle. He said it is doing better now than it did before he re-injured it in minicamp. "The way it feels right now, I feel like I could [get back on the field], but that probably isn't the smartest thing to do. I don't want to rush it and come back too early. I'm hopeful that by the middle of training camp I'll be back at 100 percent," Webster said. Webster sustained the injury in last year's regular season finale.
