Disappointing. I haven't been impressed by Powell and I was hoping he'd lose out to someone better.
Of course, we can always cut Powell and re-sign Stahovich after week 3, provided we don't have to cut our extra place kicker to make room on the roster.Comment

Kinda curious as to why they'd do this now... Why not keep him around so that Powell's leg doesn't get worn out, if nothing more...
It's not like roster cuts are happening today or anything... Only reason I could see doing this now is if they want to sign someone or activate someone off of the reserve or PUP list.

powell is gonna punt here for a loong time. hes physically the biggest punter since reggie roby. hes powerful, should be durable, and can make a tackle if necessary

Powell has a leg but he also has a tendency to shank punts at the worst possible times. He needs to be more consistent.Comment

Powell has promise, but he needs to improve over last year. It takes more than a big leg. He was 24th in Gross, 23rd in Net, 21st in punts downed inside the 20, 22nd in punts fair caught and when returned the opponent averaged 12.8 yards (29th in the NFL).Originally posted by Meathead View Post

Two reasons I figure, to give Stahovich a legitimate chance to find another team because he's good enough to punt somewhere, and to give Powell all the practice he can get because he needs it. I don't really think you need to worry about a punter saving his leg, especially a young one, B. As mentioned he's a big boy with a powerful young leg, but sort of needs to move along in his development after mastering the ill timed shank.Originally posted by BLeonard View Post
