Would A Win Over The Patriots Erase 13 Years of Football Misery?

Can 1 game erase so much of the past?

If there was ever a game, this is it.

The future of the franchise is 20 days away.

If the Bills do win on opening day against the Patriots, how much would it mean to this team and the fans that have seen so much go wrong ever since Frank Wycheck threw the home run thowback (illegal forward) pass to Kevin Dyson in 1999?

In a football kind of way, Bills vs. Pats on September 8th is like the story of David vs. Goliath.

A young rookie head coach, rookie quarterback, rookie starting linebacker, rookie kicker, and at least 2 rookie wide receivers vs. Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Vince Wilfork, 3 Super Bowl Championships, and a decade plus of dominance in the AFC East.

No way the Bills can possibly win, right?

A Bills victory would be the, "ultimate upset," of all upsets. But would a single upset victory eliminate 13 years of being held in football purgatory?

I think it would because if the Bills win week 1 it will mean a whole lot more than just one win, baby.

If the Bills beat the Patriots on opening day, I will _____________ and ______________.

    Please fill in the blanks.

No, but I'll tell you what, it would be getting this franchise reboot off to a great start.

If the Bills beat the Patriots on opening day, I will be happy as a pig in **** and hope that we sweep them.

Re: Would A Win Over The Patriots Erase 13 Years of Football Misery?

Had we not beat them a couple of years ago and got the decade long streak off our backs then it would definitely be a huge win. It would still be huge and people would be excited but not at the same level.

Whether we win or lose the game isn't going to erase 13 years of misery or make or break the season. It's what we do the other 15 games is what matters. If that's all some fans expectations of success is by beating the Patriots then your're setting yourself up for a loser mentality once again right from the start. In the grand scheme of things it's just one more game on the schedule.

The only thing that may wipe away the misery is a new owner.

We beat them recently... and that didn't help much.

              Two words.

              Play.

              Offs.

That's what will wipe it away. Just make the final 6.

No, but, it would help. Of course if we win AT foxboro, that would be different. 0-10 or 0-11 since that place opened?

Nothing will have really changed until the Bills WIN the AFC East IMO.

When that happens, we can CELEBRATE.

Winning a battle doesn't mean you won the war.

Beating the Patriots would simply mean Buffalo is 1-0.

Agreed, but I will take that in week one.

Going to four Super Bowls never erased the memories of Vince Ferragamo, Bruce Mathison, and o-fer the '70's against Miami.

No way. It will take years of dominating the Patriots much like we did in the 90s to them to get over it. Need consistent playoff runs to get over years of misery of no playoffs.
My son is starting his freshman year of high school next week. He was 4 months old when the Bills were last in the playoffs.
