Byrd not starting against the Patriots?

It just said on the Bills pregame show that Byrd probably won't be starting week one against the Patriots. I'm sure he will see some playing time but it looks like we have Aaron Williams starting instead.

Brady is probably foaming at the mouth with the thought of going up against our secondary of McKelvin, Searcy, Williams and Rodgers/Butler next weekend.

is that a "not starting" but will be playing on second down and then effectively the rest of the game type thing or is he in limited action? What is the board's thoughts?

Way too early to determine who will start. Also, pretty sure A. Williams is starter regardless of Byrd's situation. If Byrd doesn't start, A.Williams will start along side Searcy or D. Williams.

I don't see any reason why not to start Byrd. He's going to play out of his mind this year because he wants his jackass of an agent, Eugene Parker to "show him the money".

If he doesn't it's because they feel he isn't ready after missing all but two weeks worth of practice. Either physically and/or mentally that would be the only reason. They're going to play their best defensive player when he's ready and not sit him over any bad blood.

He can't risk any injury so he can cash in with some other team next year when we fail to sign yet another home grown star.
True fans want wins, not draft picks.

Apparently you have to earn your spot on this team and Byrd hasn't proven it yet!

More foolishness by a disjointed and embarrassing organization.

Re: Byrd not starting against the Patriots?

If I'm Marrone, I start him and play him in every package that he's supposed to be in, as if he hadn't missed a day of camp.

If Byrd is out of shape, not up to speed, etc, that's his problem for not signing his tender sooner and getting his ass into camp.

Byrd is being paid a Franchise salary, so he should be on the field earning that salary.

He has some sort of foot injury:

Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Jairus Byrd was not with the team tonight due to a concern about his foot.

Marrone said much like Mario Williams, Byrd was experiencing soreness in his foot and went to visit Dr. Robert Anderson for a second opinion.

                      How convenient...

My previous post stands. If he can walk, I play him. He's the one that chose to wait until Mid-August to sign the tender... Make him earn it.

Or, there's always plan B, if they feel he's sandbagging: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...franchise-tag/

                      5. Franchise tender is guaranteed, with one exception.

Once a player signs the franchise tag, the one-year salary becomes fully guaranteed. But there’s a little-known exception.

Under Article 10, Section 2(c) of the CBA, the contract can be terminated if the player fails “to establish or maintain his excellent physical condition.”

Any effort to do so would result in a review of the situation by a neutral physician and, eventually and inevitably, arbitration. Still, the franchise tender technically isn’t fully and completely guaranteed.

Jeez...we usually have at least half of September before the season becomes a disaster.
Lehner's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

Multiple failures at the management level, 13 years a running.

Given the secondary woes, this team has no choice BUT to play Byrd, and probably switch him back to his original CB position to boot.

And if you think he has a sore foot, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
