Bills close to extending Eric Wood

The Buffalo Bills are making progress in negotiations on a contract extension with center Eric Wood, sources close to the talks tell The News.

Wood, 27, is entering the fifth and final year of the rookie contract he signed in 2009. He was a first-round pick from the University of Louisville. He is widely viewed as the most elite player the Bills have on their offensive line, and he's considered one of the Bills' team leaders.

This should make Byrd feel even better. This is what they should have done with Byrd last year.

      Like it.

Eric Wood is one of the few "often injured" players I don't consider injury prone.

All his injuries were major freak accidents. He doesn't deal with minor nagging stuff that bothers him week to week.

I've always insisted he's our most naturally talented lineman since 2009. Just let him stay healthy. He'll be a bargain.

Wood is probably not trying to be the highest paid player at his position.

Who knows? Maybe they tried, but with Parker as his agent they couldn't come to an agreement.

Give the Bills credit for getting this done. You have to keep your good players, and Wood is easily their best OL. Getting it done and not having to worry about it after the season is a big deal.

That's because Wood realizes that he's nowhere near the top player at his position.

He's borderline top ten when healthy.

When healthy, I think he is easily top 10, like maybe #6. The problem has been his inability to stay healthy.

Ian Rapoport@RapSheet 6m #Bills and C Eric Wood have reached a deal on a contract extension, I'm told. Should have numbers soon...

He was convinced to stay after he had lunch with Mike, Historian, MikeInRoch, Clump, eb and I.

I don't think you're being objective at all.

Just off the top of my head, I think Pouncey, Sullivan, Goodwin, Unger, Myers, Mangold, and Mack are all better.

I think he is an elite pass blocker when healthy, but if he wants to be considered an elite overall C, he will have to improve his run blocking.

I'm sure that will come as his knee gets stronger though.
