He just got cut by the Panthers, and we're desperate for veternan CB.

Gotta wonder why he was cut when only making $940,000

No. Winfield maybe for the nostalgia factor, but no to Florence.

Winfield can still play at a semi-high level. he would be our number 1 or 2 easily until Gilmore gets back...

Just when I was thinking this team wasn't drawing enough penalties. Dayton should definitely help get those flags flying. He was always good for that.

oh by the way, he sucks too.

Both guys have seen better days. What's the sense in bringing either back?

I'd like to think but the dude got cut. Apparently they didn't think so on the Seahawks.

Seahawks have a ton of talent at CB. Can't imagine you would be paying your 3rd or 4th CB the kind of money that winfield was making.

We need AW, like today.

Florence had a pick 6 in preseason that I saw a highlight of and I remember thinking that he looked like he had gas left in the tank.

We don't need anybody. The Marrone/Hackett/Petrine system will conquer all. Right?

maybe...maybe not. At least last year, he was still playing pretty well..

Winfield checked in as the fifth-best cornerback against the pass in the league. Here’s, in part, what PFF wrote about him: “His game is built upon allowing catches for short yardage and making stops in coverage — evidenced by four complete seasons in which he is yet to allow more than 10 yards per reception into his coverage.”

But the most interesting nugget from the site: “It shouldn’t be forgotten that Winfield gets the job done in coverage and hasn’t allowed a touchdown in the past three years.”

Winfield fared better when it came to evaluating cornerbacks against the run: He was ranked first, and it wasn’t even close. There’s a tendency in sports to saddle reputations on players and keep building on those reputations even when the performance doesn’t back it up. But in Winfield’s case, his play validates his status as one of the league’s top corners against the run.

Hasn't given up a TD in 3 years?

I don't know if Aaron "If you don't have a big Cornerback, you're in trouble" Williams went an entire half without giving up a TD.

The veteran cornerback was a victim of a deep, young secondary.
The Seattle Seahawks (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/seattle-seahawks) will cut cornerback Antoine Winfield (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/3195/antoine-winfield), according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com (https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/373787861071327232).
Winfield's release seems just as much an indication of Seattle's depth in its secondary as anything else.

Let's bring Winfield in to hold down the fort until Gilmore is healthy. Guys like Brooks could definitely learn from him.

I'd take a serious look at Chase Minnifield.

I'd definitely agree with that, especially in the run support/tackling department. If I were a DB coach, at the very least, I'd have a lot of game tape on Winfield and would be showing it to my players ...and repeating "this is how you do it.".

...except that he's hanging it up now.

Back to Florence....
