Byrd reveals he has plantar fasciitis

Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd shed some light on the foot injury that has caused him to miss time since signing his franchise tender.

Byrd said Sunday he had a second opinion on his foot after dealing with plantar fasciitis.

The safety added he's been working "as much as my body can endure" to return to the field.

Bills coach Doug Marrone said Byrd didn't participate fully in practice Sunday and is unsure of his status heading into next week's season opener against the New England Patriots.

The fifth-year pro has been mum about his injury since signing his tender. Byrd had been looking for a contract that would make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

The nature of a plantar fasciitis injury puts his return to the field up in the air. A lingering injury is the last thing Byrd could have hoped for as he seeks to prove he's worth a big contract next season.

Jairus Byrd hasn't seen the field much since signing his franchise tender with the Buffalo Bills. The safety said Sunday he's been dealing with plantar fasciitis.

    Oh great.

That's the same injury that renders Antonio Gates useless in fantasy football most years.

It's day to day with that stuff. Forever.

I had plantar fascitis in both feet. Hurt like hell just to walk. After surgery, it took almost 2 years to fully recover.

#1 money ? If we paid this guy based on that & this came up, it'd be a huge debate. Byrd really should've considered better choices based on an event like this, he's really now gambling with his future. I can't really say he's trustworthy or worth the risks associated with this condition, so it's a huge difference in his future. I'd say it's cat & mouse now, second opinions willing.

This injury is bull****... just like Mario's phantom wrist injury was.

look... there's millions of dollars at stake here, and he's not going to waste his chance on the Bills. He's taking his 8 large and rolling into next offseason.

after a full year of getting paid large and not playing, the Bills aren't going to tag him again and he will be off to elsewhere.

another great job by OBD at getting a one of their producing draft picks into a second contract.

If EJ Manuel is really good and the Bills start winning, I wouldn't be surprised if Byrd's foot started feeling a whole lot better.

                Winning fixes everything.

Byrd should do the right thing and not play until he is 100% healthy. Heal up and hopefully get traded to a real NFL team next year.

Yeeeeaaaah because he would want every other team's GM to know about a debilitating foot condition during his contract year. Real smart, guy.

Re: Byrd reveals he has plantar fasciitis

theres no gm in the world that isnt going to be exceedingly concerned with a guy a) with that condition and 2) who was not reliable to play in '13 bc of it

so he trumps up this serious condition to do exactly what in the offseason? uh yeah mr gm im all better now, see i wasnt really hobbled as much as i said he he and im raring to go now baby so about making me that highest paid safety in the league now hmmmm?

hed get laughed out of the office

again, he coulda been the third highest paid safety right now. hes never getting even that next season if he doesnt suit up and play well this whole year. not with that diagnosis

                          dumbass made his own bed

Byrd will not play for first 2-4 weeks, be a marginal player until week 10 and then deliver 4-6 big games at the end. And that will be enough for other teams to snatch him up and get our panties in a bunch.

Isn't his foot injury heal spurs?

I hate when people fake **** to leave the City of Buffalo.

If you love Buffalo, you would never leave.

"There are no jobs" Whaaa -- they leave.

"The rest of the US is better to live in" Whaaa -- they leave.

Now Byrd wasn't born in Buffalo and he does not like it there so he wants to leave.

                              What a bastard he is!
