Why not of have just kept Lindell if they wanted 2 kickers?? Oh wait its OBD and they like being cheap, even on kickers.

Jesus.

Hopkins was fine in the pre season.

Once again, this franchise defies logic. Why sign an reserve guard since they currently have none. Why sign a QB so they have more than a UDFA back up on the roster. Why sign a back up ILB, when they only have one on the roster. Why sign a CB when they are short there too.

Of course, a 7th ****ing safety might be nice too. 6 might not be enough

Nope. Let's sign a ****ing kicker.

Unless Hopkins is injured this is dumb as hell

But he has intel on both the Dolphins and Jets  Perfect signing if ask me. No not really, seriously if we're wasting a spot on a second kicker we're in a bigger mess than I thought.

If Carpenter is signed, Hopkins would likely be released...

At least I doubt there's gonna be two kickers on the roster.

Why not? We did it last season for the first few weeks.

Hopkins injured his groin today. This explains the signing.

That makes sense. They wouldn't randomly sign a kicker when Hopkins has looked fine.

He's certainly NOT going to be released. He's our kicker for the next decade. Unless it's a tear that needs season ending surgery, they'll either keep him on the roster or use the IR exemption where he can be IR'd & brought back later in the season. Hopkins will be kicking in the NFL many years after Carpenter is out of the league.

You can't make the connection there? You really don't see how this might be an injury that a kicker would suffer? I'd give you the broken wrist argument, but the groin seems kind of self-explanatory.

I know, I know, I am a ****** and so on and so forth.

OK. Now it makes sense. It would be nice if we heard from the Bills first that Hopkins had been injured and they were looking for a K. Then there would not have been the overreaction!

They were more concerned that their competition for getting Carpenter didn't find out they were in the K market until they signed him than keeping fans from going nuts on Bills message boards.

It's take no effort to kick a ball. How does one get injured?

Cut by the Dolphins, Cards and Jets all within the span of a few weeks. And he arguably cost my team 2 to 3 more wins last year. But if you guys want him....

The good news/bad news is that with this roster, no kicker is going to cost this team 2-3 wins this season.
I'll view this season as a success if EJ shows enough to trust him with the future of this team. The W/L record is not very important & will mean nothing if 2 or 3 years from now we're Super Bowl champs with EJ at QB.

Well, the Bills have not been smart enough to take every advantage they could get in the past which is probably why they have gone 13 years without making the playoffs.

I don't understand why a kicker cant learn to punt or vice versa.. I mean what else do they have to practice?

In the CFL some teams over the years have had someone do both punting and field goal kicking

That's not gonna happen when with a 6th string QB as your starting QB.

Carpenter was huge in the Bills win over the Phins on December 19, 2010, Bills won 17-14. Carpenter was 0-4 on FGs that day!!!

Career he is 77.8%, if you take out that game he is 82.1!!!!!

Kirk Roach-5th round pick in 1988. He was injured (hernia) before he could fairly compete against Norwood & then went on IR. He left & signed with Green Bay on plan B & never played a down in the NFL. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1499&dat=19890324&id=Q2saAAAAIBAJ&sjid=2CsEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6846,94091
The strangest part is the Bills drafted a kicker who kicked barefoot. We were making jokes about him getting frostbite when they drafted him.
