I was thinking about if we trade him & the injury he had coming into camp, then I thought maybe the team needs to look at placing him on IR to open up a roster spot. If he's hurt & doesn't want to play, why not put him on IR / file a grievance for him coming in injured. Maybe the Bills can recoup some of the monies they have to pay him & see if there's a trade available later this season ?? Maybe we can work out an injury settlement & then honor the request to trade him. Lets come up with some ideas here, brainstorming type.
Any benefit(s) for the team putting Byrd on IR ??

All this will do is show the world what a second rate organization you are.

You'd be making him a FA and getting nothing out of it.

The roster spot holds value but Byrd might (stress might) be able to play at some point, so you'd lose out on his services for the whole year. Can we IR him with the ability to designate him to come back later in the season ??

And I don't see the purpose of doing all of this to open up a roster spot. We're going to lose one of our best players just so we can sign some no-name from the practice squad?

You can play in the NFL with plantar fasciitis.

Re: Any benefit(s) for the team putting Byrd on IR ??
If they were to IR him, he would try for an injury settlement. In this case, his injury settlement likely would be his entire salary since it is guaranteed. If he couldn't reach an agreement, he could file a grievance. The NFLPA would likely expedite any grievance since they hate the tag, and his a arbiter would likely give him his entire salary (since it is guaranteed) and grant him his release.
So... basically this thread is a stupid idea.

If what you say is true, then there is zero reason why Byrd should not play on Sunday... He's being paid to play, so he should be out there.

I don't like the way the Bills have approached this whole thing, but from a legal standpoint, they have done nothing wrong.
If he can play, he should be playing.
And I think if he wanted to play, he would be playing.
