"We continue to work on his contract," Regier said today. "I’ve had conversations with his agent on a couple of occasions this morning. I spoke briefly with Cody. Both sides are working hard on this.
"The efforts that are being made by both sides would indicate that we want to get something done as quickly as possible. We’re going to make every attempt to get him on the ice tomorrow."
Hodgson earned a base salary of $787,500 last season and turned down the one-year qualifying offer of $826,875. Regier said he's talked with agent Ritch Winter about long- and short-term extensions for the 23-year-old center.

"We certainly believe that Cody is a player that will continue to get better, improve," Regier said. "He has fit in very well organizationally. He’s a very mature young man. He’s a very hard-working, committed individual and athlete. That’s someone we’d like to have around for a long time.

Can't imagine he gets any more than Kadri so that is positive.

Not from a well-managed team. But we are talking about the Sabres. See Leino, Ville; Connolly, Tim; Roy, Derek; Pominville, Jason.

Further to @RealKyper tweets,
Cody Hodgson's AAV comes in at $4.25M. So he'll earn $25.5M over six seasons. A
little less than Ville Leino.

Nice deal. Didn't think we'd be able to buy out some UFA years for under a 4.5 hit

Simply a good thing that they signed him, and for 6.

That deal could be a bargain in a year or two.

WGR 550 is going nuts (along with some of the nuttier fans) saying the deal is too long and he isn't worth the money. I'm not a big fan of 6 years for a guy who still hasn't proved much, but it COULD be a very good deal. I just hope he doesn't turn into Stafford.

Well given that the Sabres only seem to get production form guys in contract years, I can see how the length is a concern. It won't matter if CoHo is good, though.

This is great deal for the Sabres. I mean, if they are in a bind a few years down the line, and it sucks to even bring it up, but his contract is tradeable too.
