The New England Patriots worked out former Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills wide receiver David Nelson, according to a league source.

Nelson tore his anterior cruciate ligament last year and had a bone bruise that hampered him in training camp with the Browns prior to being released.

Nelson was sidelined all of last season after catching 61 passes for 658 yards and five touchdowns in 2011. For his career, he has 94 receptions for 1,042 yards and eight touchdowns.

David Nelson's not a bad receiver. He's not a burner but he finds soft spots in coverage. That's the kind of guy Brady could use.

I'd take him over a lot of #4 and #5 receivers in the league.

I actually think he would play really well with Brady.

He has sure hands and runs good routes.

He's a chain-mover which is what they need.

        True dat.

He had a ridiculous amount of first downs when he played with Fitz.

You can't ask much more of a #3 receiver, which is what he was in our offense back then.

BB actually liked Nelson coming out of the draft but landed with the bills instead.

I do not want to see Nelson with Brady.

His knee must be really, really messed up.

That's the only way I could see a guy who caught 61 passes as an undrafted rookie #4 WR not being on a roster somewhere.

Belichick is just signing him to get inside info on the Dallas cheerleaders.

I was surprised the Pats didn't pursue Da'Rick Rogers. Too late now though, Colts just moved him off their practice squad.

That's plausible. I'd guess NE has a revolving door, looking at WRs. I'm kinda surprised they aren't working on a trade - don't know how their cap situation is - but between sellouts and league-leading ave. tix prices, they probably have the money.

When the Pats are picking up our cuts, that could be a signal we finally may be doing something right.

They've done it a few times. Sam Aiken and Sammy Morris are the ones that come to mind.
