No it's not a typo. Whitner has legally changed his name to Donte Hitner.

I am friends with people from the Bay Area who are die hard 49er fans....they absolutely despise this guy just like we did.

maybe the bills will do a sabres thing and trade byrd to get whitner back.

whitner is so useless. he's the ugly girl who is somehow connected to the hot girl clique and as a result thinks she's attractive now. Just because they went to the superbowl doesn't mean he can cover a tightend of slot receiver any better than before.

God he sucks at life. It makes me mad that he obviously thinks hes really good, because hes on one of the best defenses in the NFL...most anything he does is a product of the rest of the defense.

Or....

replace the "t" with an "f"?

his best hits have been illegal shots. and the strongest memory i have of whitner being a big hitter was when he ran into the PAtriots running back and dislocated his shoulder from being sat down.

If he was a quiet guy and just went about his business, i'd say he's a middle of the pack player. but he's so sure of himself when he has no reason to be. he is the dick jauron of safeties. keeps getting exposed for the same things, says he'll make changes and then repeats.

I bet his Mom and Dad are very proud. Forsaking his surname to make a splash in the media. I bet his name now strikes fear in the hearts of WRs and RBs. The latest report is that Marshawn Lynch has gone into hiding.

he is the dick jauron of safeties. Actually, Dick Jauron was a decent safety. He had 25 picks in 8 years of playing and was a good punt returner. Whitner has 9 picks in the same amount of time.

I understand that Donte changed his name because he was butthurt for getting fined for a cheap shot. Kinda like the attitude, but Harbaugh left his team and himself open for scrutiny when he said "We're the '49ers, we can do anything we want". No wonder Jim Kelly punched him in the beak.

The old adage "It's better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than open it and remove all doubt", certainly applies here.

per ESPN ...
The name change will not be cheap for Whitner. A league official told ESPN's Darren Rovell that NFL rules stipulate that if a player changes his name during an NFL season, he is required to purchase all the remaining inventory of merchandise with the old name that hasn't been sold... lol

I watched the 49ers play recently. Saw a bad pass literally bounce off of Whitner's chest into the receiver's arms for a big first down. Whitner at least managed to then slow the receiver down as he was dragged the next 5 yards.

The more things change...

lol i never understood all the whitner hate but these are some good jokes in here. poor guy

The guy consistently underperformed on the field, but that didn't stop him from talking all kinds of trash. He never lived up to his draft status and got into trouble off the field as well.

And to make it even more irritating, the Donte Whitner Anti-Defamation League had to defend everything he did wrong on this site. They even defended him when he got burned for a touchdown then took a personal foul for hitting the guy 8 yards deep in the endzone.

They even defended him when he got burned for a touchdown then took a personal foul for hitting the guy 8 yards deep in the endzone.

Ironically, that was one of his best plays as a Bill! If I remember correctly, he hit a Raider who was taunting him, and it pumped the team up and sparked an unlikely comeback.

Other than that though, he was underwhelming at best. Watching the SB last year, it was pretty obvious that he hadn't improved much either. He's always come off as a really insecure guy -- all of his Twitter nonsense and now changing his name to "Hitner" when he is an average player...

OpIv37

And let's not forget the patented Whitner too little too late flying back tackle after someone else had already made the play.
