No, he is the scapegoat cause he shanks half his punts.

He just doesn't get enough hang time, I think that is fairly obvious.

Wow! The coverage was poor but he was I'm sure told to kick it to a certain point and he wasn't doing that at all.

so he's the scapegoat because our special teams couldn't tackle

He is 32nd in the NFL in net, 15th in Gross. He has had several shanks and his line-drive kicks have led to 19 of his punts being returned (2nd most in league). He has nobody to blame but himself.

The bigger question is who they get for a punter. Here is a list of some of the guys out there:

Chris Kluwe
Mat McBriar
Brian Moorman
Nick Harris
Reggie Hodges
Daniel Sepulveda
Matt Dodge
Matt Turk
Jason Baker
Ben Graham
Chas Henry
T.J. Conley
Robert Malone
Ricky Schmitt (K)
Tom Malone
Sam Paulescu
Ryan Tydlacka
Ryan Donahue
Daniel Power
Chris Bryan
Brad Wing

we needed a punter who could help the offense whenever we went 3 and out.

He was told let it hang, couldn't do it, he was told to kick away couldnt do it. Bills have plenty of time to try out guys, good call.

The only punter in history to get a taunting penalty. Let's bring him in.

He was awful last night, and has been poop all season. You can punt it as far as you want, but if you line drive it, you don't give your coverage much of a chance.

There are some competent punters on the FA market.

I hope they're not planning on re-signing Brian Stahovich for the sake of familiarity.

Good news. He was terrible last night. They need to get rid of that left guard too.

The punt that was returned for a TD was right where you want your Punter to put the ball, nobody kept their outside lanes.

Except it had like 3 seconds of hang time.

I was on the 35 yard line, row 15, and the difference between our kickers/punters and theirs was noticeable. Cundiff put most of the kickoffs between the uprights. Carpenter was serviceable.

But Powell's punts looked like Brett Favre passes. Frozen ropes with little or no air under them. Their returner had enough time to run at a right angle to the opposite sideline before turning upfield. That HAS to tell you something.

in the jet game, he was booting 50-60 yard kicks all game.

i would agree, he was a large reason that they lost. The don't have that kick return after the first long one, they probably stay in the driver seat. tuel just has to run the clock as opposed to coming from behind.

if the coaches were telling him routinely to punt it out of bounds, and he was punting to guy, sure, cut him. But let's not overlok that 2 of the kicksalmost got blocked because of the blocking for the bills. lots of stuff still need correcting.

Ironic story...........Moorman was cut after we played Cleveland last year.

He hasn't been great but he obviously is the scapegoat. It's not like he is a special punter so he can be replaced. The bigger issue is with our special teams as a whole. I remember the articles about how bad Danny Crossman's special teams units were ranked in the past.

Our kick return game has been non-existent to this point. Maybe Goodwin or somebody else could do a better job then Easley. He just isn't explosive enough. It may be a little of both that we can't do anything when we bring the kicks out for return. Our kick return coverage has been solid though and Easley has made some good plays. The punt coverage and returns hasn't been very good though. Especially last night.

In this case, it's more than Powell not being great, he was bad. At the least you only need a punter to be competent.

I have problems looking back to the 70's remembering bad punters. I don't think we ever had one. At the worst they were not bad punters.

Powell seems like a nice guy, kid with a strong leg, has it in him to try and tackle like a linebacker, but he's bad at punting.

Watching him line up for an untimely shank which I had a feeling would be an untimely shank, I recalled fondly that even aging, Moorman could sort of get the ball down there, or might throw a good pass, or might sprint for 10 yards on the rare fake. Powell wasn't even the vaguest threat of fake and couldn't get the ball where he intended. Moorman was not a stingy fellow, and I find it hard to believe he didn't try and teach Powell anything.

Whenever the punt went where it was intended, there were 4 Bills standing in front of the returner, I noticed this several times, so you can't blame the coverage units for going where they were supposed to be and getting past their guys, but you could see too when he punted and the ball was not going where it was supposed to be heading in a general direction.

Powell could not even get to competent or "not bad level", and I don't even see anyone on that list of available punters who have ever been less than not bad.

I wish Powell well in his next career, man did we give him a chance to last.
