Ten players who disappointed in season's first quarter

    3. C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills

The 54-yard touchdown run on a gimpy ankle was a welcome sign of life, but Spiller remains a disappointment so far. Spiller established himself as a star last season, and many predicted even bigger things in 2013. Instead, Spiller has meandered through the season as the second-best running back on his own team.

With the season at its quarter pole, Around The League looks at 10 players who have played well below expectations so far. New York Giants running back David Wilson earned a place on the list.

I suppose you have to give it a go between the tackles a few times to soften up the edges. But for crap sake, do we have to run him into the line every ********* time?
Lehner's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

Who was the last truly reliable star we had in Buffalo? I

I'm thinking Spikes maybe? And that was a long time ago and he was only here and healthy for two years.

The thing that is really annoying is the lack of screen game. Did they not watch CJ destroy teams on screen passes under gailey? That part obviously wasn't borken, yet they go against a proven strategy. Don't get it.

The last truly reliable star has one foot out the door at the moment.

                        Here's the thing...

Guys like Kelly, Thurman, Bruce, Reed (Andre, not Josh), Biscuit, Talley, Paup, Speilman, Moulds, Pat Williams, Winfield, Clements, TKO.... they rarely if ever had bad games, and most of their bad games were a result of the other team scheming specifically to stop them, which allowed all the guys around them to have big days.

For the last decade or so, our "stars" have been guys like Evans and Schobel, who have a great game then disappear for a month. Or guys like Lynch, Peters and McGahee who are stars for a year, then flake and suck for us.

I know, it's not the 90's anymore and, in the age of the salary cap and free agency, it's rare that there's someone who's a star for one team until they either retire or become so washed up that it doesn't matter. But that's no excuse for going so long without a truly reliable star for at least 5 or 6 years.

I love what I've seen from Kiko so far, but I've been impressed with young guys after a handful of impressive games before, only to watch them become streaky or just flake. So I'm not willing to call Kiko a reliable star just yet- the furthest I'll go is saying that I'm cautiously optimistic. But with the way things have gone with this team, I won't believe anything until I see it happen.

                          London Fletcher.

For me, Spiller is the #1 disappointment. I really thought that this was going to be the year that he'd become a household name.

This is why it's stupid to save money by letting current stars walk so that we have money for future stars.

People said it was ok to let Byrd and Levitre walk because Wood, Spiller, and Carrington all had contracts coming up.

Well Spiller looks pedestrian and Carrington had a major injury.

I'm not saying neither will recover and be great players, but at the moment they don't look like they are deserving of any huge contract.

Things can change so quickly in the NFL, that's why 1 in the hand is better than 2 in the bush.
