(Special thanks to TacklingDummy for this idea.)

As the song goes, one thing leads to another.

I love the idea. The NFL has been doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Ratings go up, then they go down, then they go up, then they go down. Super Bowl Sunday is like a Yo-yo and they keep walking the dog.

People get tired on Sundays after 9:00 pm.

Our, "body clocks," start to wind down to get ready for Monday morning and we pass out on the couch as a natural result. I can't make it past the 3rd quarter of the Sunday Night Football game to save my football loving soul.

Recent Super Bowls have been very close and exciting, but nothing stops the yawn on Sunday evenings, especially after a full day of eating and drinking.

After ingesting half a pizza, wings, chips, dip, homemade soup, cookies, and an 18 pack...the last thing I want to do is wake up and go to work the next day. Wouldn't, "Super Bowl Saturday," be better for everyone?

It does not take a sales study to know that when Halloween, Christmas and New Year's Eve falls on a Saturday, people tend to spend more money than any other day of the week.

Pros and Cons.

Pros - More viewership. More fan friendly. More business friendly. More party friendly.

Cons - Tradition and nostalgia.

It wouldn't matter what day to me that the SB was on as I would be watching either way. I'm sure it's the same way with any hardcore NFL fan.

I wouldn't mind the game being on Saturday though for the reasons given. They might be worried about losing your average fans or the people who only watch the Super Bowl or maybe 1 or 2 other games a season.

If you're just an average fan or somebody who just watches the Super Bowl then many of them might not give up their Saturday night plans just to watch it. If it's Sunday evening then most of them fans will tune into the game. The hardcore fan will watch either way but the average fan might not want to stay inside to watch the Super Bowl on a Saturday night. Some advertisers might be worried that you would have them number of average fans that won't give up their Saturday night to sit in front of the television.

What are they going to do? Go out to a bar, full of people watching the game?

The only reason that the SB isn't on Saturday is the most obvious -- money. With it on Sunday, the host city gets a full weekend of tourist dollars, and the NFL makes a boatload off of advertising, TV revenue, and all else that goes with elongating the weekend. They'll play dumb and talk about "tradition," but Super Bowl Saturday has just as nice a ring as Super Bowl Sunday.

The other factors mean nothing to me. I despise having to reign in my partying because of work the next morning. This past SB; I had to attend an 8:00 AM meeting on the opposite side of the DC area (traffic factor) the next morning in a half-drunken stupor. My rights as an American have never been so infringed upon.

Not everyone goes out to the bar or drinks. Some people go out for dinner, casino, movies, etc. On Sunday evening everyone is chilling at home with nothing else to do before work the next day.

There are also many businesses that are open on Saturday evening/night but are either closed on Sunday or at the very least close early. Them extra people will be working and not watching the game. The advertisers want every last person they can get glued to the television watching their commercials. Even if they're at the bar watching it then most people won't be paying as much attention to the game and especially the commercials. Especially if they don't really care about football that much.

100% true. Sunday and Thursday are the biggest TV nights of the week. Guess what weekday night also has an NFL game? The days of those AWESOME Saturday afternoon NFL games in December are over, unfortunately.

They should man up and play the next morning before breakfast to be honest with my personal opinion. You want to say you're the world champion you earn it. I'm not going to be sad no one slept well since it's happening to other people anyway.

99% of places open on Saturday are also open on Sunday. I think the viewing numbers in the 4th Qtr would be much higher on Saturday.

I think the game also starts later than it used to. I remember going to Super Bowl parties when I was younger, but haven't in years.

So now I sit in my man cave & watch the game ALONE. My wife could not care less about it & does not watch.

And I can't get my son-inlaw to come over to watch it with me either because he has to work the next morning.

I also think the new Pro Bowl idea is STUPID. I will NOT be watching that exhibition.

I was always for Super Bowl Saturday.

If not, I think they need to back the season up, and make the Super Bowl Sunday be the day before MLK day Monday every year and also pay tribute to MLK on Super Bowls

NFL season would have to start two weeks sooner, and I would not mind that

Exactly. There is a reason why many of the biggest hit shows on TV are aired on Sunday evening. Companies aren't going to shell out all them millions of dollars for a 30 second commercial unless they are getting the best possible viewership out of it. They would still pay but maybe not as much. When it comes to the Super Bowl it's all about the money it brings in.

I also think the new Pro Bowl idea is STUPID. I will NOT be watching that exhibition.

Many places are open on both days but a good amount of them are either closed on Sunday or they close early. There are also many people who work on Saturday's for their OT but then they have Sunday off.

Between all of the factors of businesses being open and people doing stuff on Saturday's that is why they would never move it. Plus like somebody else said that would be one less day during the weekend of the Super Bowl to keep people in town spending money.

Sunday evening is the biggest television day of the week. The hardcore fans will watch no matter what day or time it is. They also want to grab as many of millions of other average fans that wouldn't otherwise go out of their way to watch the game.

Sure I would love for the Super Bowl to be on Saturday and not have to worry about working the following day as any hardcore fan would. There are more people that watch the Super Bowl then just your hardcore fans though.

Advertisers are going to want to get their best possible value for the millions of dollars they are spending on commercials. I'm sure the NFL has already done plenty of these studies and that's why they haven't entertained the idea or moved it to Saturday. They just won't move it to accommodate the fans that want the following day off work after drinking themselves into oblivion.

They are trying anything with the Pro Bowl because the ratings are already junk. First they moved it to the week before the Super Bowl and also tested playing it at a different site. The new format won't help any either. I literally can't remember the last Pro Bowl I watched and many times I even forget that it's on. It's not very entertaining watching what equates to almost a two hand touch game without any defense and the players not caring. If they played the game like a normal NFL game where they game planned, blitzed, tried to win, etc, then it would be the best game of the year to watch. They never will though because the last thing the players or owners want is to see one of their best players get hurt in an exhibition game.

The end.

I don't see why that is the case. I think MANY MANY more people would watch the game from beginning to end if it were on Saturday.

And sooner or later the NFL will lose its audience because of STUPID short term profits.

Years ago, Baseball was #1 And by a large margin. Well, they started playing more night games & put the playoffs & Series on at night when the kids could not stay awake to watch it & they never bonded with it.

The same could well happen to the NFL if they don't watch it & they lose the kids who are the future fans buying tickets.

They have been playing the Super Bowl on Sunday for almost 50 years. If that was going to hurt them then it would've already done it. The game starts at 6:30pm and the game is over around 10pm-10:30pm. It's not like the game is still being played at midnight.

If somebody isn't enough of a hardcore fan to stay up and watch the Super Bowl to 10pm or so then they won't be hardcore enough to give up their Saturday night to watch it. That's a night when kids are staying with their friends, teenagers are going to hang out/party wherever they go and when adults are going out to dinner, bars, movie, casino or visiting friends or family. Most everyone is home on Sunday evening including the kids and adults. If you care about football one bit you will watch it. If you don't then you probably won't give up your Saturday evening.

I'll watch a World Series game every now and then. If it's on Saturday night I'm not giving up my evening to watch it. If it's on Sunday evening when I'm just chilling I will watch it unless there is a football game on that I would rather watch. Unless it's my team then I am just an average baseball fan. It's not any different for people who are average football fans.

We're looking at it from the standpoint of which day and time would best fit the hardcore fans like us that will be watching the game no matter when it is. The NFL and sponsors/commercials are looking at it from the standpoint of when they have the best chance to catch any fan whether they are an average fan or just watches the Super Bowl.

Absolutely not on more people watching. Why do you think none of the top shows are ever put on on friday or saturday nights? No one is home watching them. They're out to dinner, out to the movies, out dancing, out clubbing, out drinking, basically they're not watching television. For average Joe who watches the game because well it's the Superbowl or the people who watch for just the commercials, they ain't staying home to watch the game live. They can DVR it for commercials later or whatever if they so choose. Absolutely the people like us on the board would prefer Saturday over Sunday, but we're watching anyway on Sunday night so they don't need to change for us.

Baseball stopped being the National Pastime thanks to their drug problem which lead to a strike problem which lead to a steroid problem. Pick any of those three as to it's downfall, not the fact that playoff games last til 11pm. Put the game on in the afternoon and guess what? Kids are in school and aren't watching anyway.

Baseball is totally different then football. Football is only 16 games and baseball is 162 games. Unless you are a hardcore fan of the team you're not going out of your way to watch a single game out of 162 of them especially if it's on a weekday or Saturday evening. The kids aren't staying up to watch a regular season game on the weekday and if it's during the day they won't be watching it either.

Football is mainly on Sunday's and each game means a lot since it's a 16 game sprint and not a 162 game marathon. The games are played on Sunday when most people aren't working and the kids aren't in school. Plus the Super Bowl is only one game and the winner takes all. You either watch it then or you're not going to see another one for a year. It's not a World Series where it takes 4 wins to clinch the title. The later it gets in the World Series and the more competitive it is then the more people who watches it. More people are going to watch a game 7 of the World Series then game two. Even your average fans will watch the game 7 if they are sitting around without anything else to do.

That's exactly the point some of these guys are missing. They are watching it no matter what time or day of the week it starts. Your average fan or people who only watch the Super Bowl won't be doing that. The NFL wants to capture the audience of all of them people. They would still be high but they would lose millions of average fans who wouldn't go out of their way to watch the game.

The Super Bowl is only on one channel. The other 200+ networks might like that idea because they don't air the Super Bowl game and wouldn't need to compete with it. If they started paying the NFL to air the game on Saturday then the owners might entertain that idea. Until then they're going to worry about airing the game on the day and time which will make them the most money and not what would make the other shows/networks more money.

Even the network that's hosting it has a Sunday schedule that's being disrupted. At best they can use the Super Bowl lead-in for one show. If the game was moved to Saturday they would be ale to use the Super Bowl for one lead in plus run their regular Sunday schedule.

And the other two networks who pay to host the NFL can easily make this agreement among themselves, seeing as they rotate the game.

Playoffs lasting till 11PM or LATER is a HUGE reason baseball is not as popular as it used to be.

And people go out on a NORMAL Saturday, but if it was a SUPER BOWL Saturday night people would either have Super Bowl parties in their homes or go to bars/restaurants to watch the game.

They would NOT be going out shopping or the movies or dancing or clubbing. EVERYONE would be watching the GAME. Without the worry about getting up for work the next day.

I could just see that fly nowadays if the schools had the kids watching the World Series instead of learning in school

The Super Bowl has been on Sunday for 47 years now and it has only gained in popularity each year. It's not like playing on Sunday is a new phenomenon.

The hardcore fans are going to watch the game whenever. It's not like people are going to bed at 6:30pm on a Sunday and if they're watching the game they're not going to bed at 9pm in the middle of the game. Plus not every worker even works early in the morning. This isn't a 9am-5pm country where everything closes in the evening.

If the NFL changed the day the game was played it would be because studies show it was in their best interest to catch the most viewers. They are not going to change it to appease to fans who want to drink themselves into oblivion and have the next day off work at the same time. Many people watching the Super Bowl doesn't even drink and if they are not getting completely wasted.

It has nothing to do with drinking. It has to do with staying up LATE to see the end of the game.

And it has only been the last few years that the game started so LATE. It used to be on MUCH EARLIER.

That is the BIG problem IMO. If the game started at 6 PM it would be fine on Sunday.
