    Super Bowl Saturday?

(Special thanks to TacklingDummy for this idea.)

As the song goes, one thing leads to another.

I love the idea. The NFL has been doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Ratings go up, then they go down, then they go up, then they go down. Super Bowl Sunday is like a Yo-yo and they keep walking the dog.

People get tired on Sundays after 9:00 pm.

Our, "body clocks," start to wind down to get ready for Monday morning and we pass out on the couch as a natural result. I can't make it past the 3rd quarter of the Sunday Night Football game to save my football loving soul.

Recent Super Bowls have been very close and exciting, but nothing stops the yawn on Sunday evenings, especially after a full day of eating and drinking.

After ingesting half a pizza, wings, chips, dip, homemade soup, cookies, and an 18 pack...the last thing I want to do is wake up and go to work the next day. Wouldn't, "Super Bowl Saturday," be better for everyone?

It does not take a sales study to know that when Halloween, Christmas and New Year's Eve falls on a Saturday, people tend to spend more money than any other day of the week.

    Pros and Cons.

Pros - More viewership. More fan friendly. More business friendly. More party friendly.

    Cons - Tradition and nostalgia.

          Re: Super Bowl Saturday?

It wouldn't matter what day to me that the SB was on as I would be watching either way. I'm sure it's the same way with any hardcore NFL fan.

I wouldn't mind the game being on Saturday though for the reasons given. They might be worried about losing your average fans or the people who only watch the Super Bowl or maybe 1 or 2 other games a season.

If you're just an average fan or somebody who just watches the Super Bowl then many of them might not give up their Saturday night plans just to watch it. If it's Sunday evening then most of them fans will tune into the game. The hardcore fan will watch either way but the average fan might not want to stay inside to watch the Super Bowl on a Saturday night. Some advertisers might be worried that you would have them number of average fans that won't give up their Saturday night to sit in front of the television.

What are they going to do? Go out to a bar, full of people watching the game?

The only reason that the SB isn't on Saturday is the most obvious -- money. With it on Sunday, the host city gets a full weekend of tourist dollars, and the NFL makes a boatload off of advertising, TV revenue, and all else that goes with elongating the weekend. They'll play dumb and talk about "tradition," but Super Bowl Saturday has just as nice a ring as Super Bowl Sunday.

The other factors mean nothing to me. I despise having to reign in my partying because of work the next morning. This past SB; I had to attend an 8:00 AM meeting on the opposite side of the DC area (traffic factor) the next morning in a half-drunken stupor. My rights as an American have never been so infringed upon.

Not everyone goes out to the bar or drinks. Some people go out for dinner, casino, movies, etc. On Sunday evening everyone is chilling at home with nothing else to do before work the next day.

There are also many businesses that are open on Saturday evening/night but are either closed on Sunday or at the very least close early. Them extra people will be working and not watching the game. The advertisers want every last person they can get glued to the television watching their commercials. Even if they're at the bar watching it then most people won't be paying as much attention to the game and especially the commercials. Especially if they don't really care about football that much.

100% true. Sunday and Thursday are the biggest TV nights of the week. Guess what weekday night also has an NFL game? The days of those AWESOME Saturday afternoon NFL games in December are over, unfortunately.

It's insane, I have plenty of other suggestions to save the league in another thread.

Football Friday isn't taken & gives you 2 days to recover, especially if by some lucky break you live outside of Buffalo with an NFL team who's owner hasn't outlived most redwoods.

They should man up and play the next morning before breakfast to be honest with my personal opinion. You want to say you're the world champion you earn it. I'm not going to be sad no one slept well since it's happening to other people anyway.

Pros - our gnp will probably go up .00042% because people will use Sunday to recover from their hangover instead of Monday.
