View Full Version : Nickell Robey Is A Beast

After a rough start, roster shuffling, and getting starters back from injury, Buffalo's pass D has improved quite a bit as the season has progressed. Currently they sit 17th, not great, but not terrible. This is still a very young team with a new scheme, and they have already pushed themselves to be among the top units when it comes to INTs, pressure, and sacks. We haven't seen anything of the sort in years.

I think most of us agree Robey was an amazing UDFA signing. "Mighty Mouse" has 10 deflections and a pick 6 on the season. He is still just 21, and Buffalo signed him to a 3 year deal. He has played in every game so far, and saw more snaps once it was obvious that Justin Rogers wasn't a fit. Since then, Robey has been on fire. Check out PFF's "Signature Stat" ranking for Yards Per Cover Snap.

Also, I said last season that McKelvin finally developed into a solid cover corner after years of frustration. The staff saw that and extended him. This season, before he got banged up, he was breaking up passes left and right with 7 in the first 2 games. Here are the 2012 numbers:

Yes, this is just one value, but it helps paint a picture. PFF's best numbers are their overall grade metrics, which I no longer have access to because I didn't re-up on the subscription, lol.

Those are some big names Robey is running with. The snap count isn't huge, but he also wasn't that involved early on. When he was, he shined. We might have the rare "exception to the rule" type player. It has only been 10 games, but from what he has done so far, there is reason to be excited. At 5'7'' 169 Lbs he shouldn't be able to do what he does. I think Trindon Holliday might be the only player smaller than him.

So what is our franchise CB Gilmore's number? Not enough snaps to be counted?

In fairness the competition Robey and Gilmore face is not equal.

This is true, but Gilmore has disappointed this year, no doubt about it.

mighty mouse, i like it. but it might be racist

if mighty mouse is black then its ok, but if hes white then its grostequely racist

in this pic mm appears to be more black than white. his entire head is black everywhere except his face but that could just be from the michael jackson disease. he is after all wearing the obviously white gloves, but on both hands. if i could see him moonwalk that might help, then again white kids from joysee finally learned how to moonwalk as of last week so who knows

this pic has the very overt pinkie flesh look of a real whitey. but that could be just a white artist trying to hijack mm like they did jesus. i mean if mm was white he would be a white mouse and thus all white, right? but theres that black head with the hands and face that are clearly caucasian so its confusing. maybe if you asked mm he might go all jessica rabbit and say 'im not white, im just drawn that way'. it would help a lot of mm had cornrows or a grille. at least he does get in a lot of fights

well for the time being im going to assume mighty mouse is black and be enthusiastic about using that nickname for robey. but if theres any confirmation that theres even one drop of white in mm i hope you will all join me in being instantly outraged

Danger Mouse was white, Mighty Mouse is black. Everyone knows that.

He's been one of the few pleasant surprises this year.

Probably, I no longer have full access to the site, so I can't filter by snaps.

Gilmore has obviously been rusty. The secondary was terrible early on learning the new scheme, and he's a few months behind. He's also learning to trust his body again, with his specialty being a stout jammer at the line, coming off a broken hand might make someone a little timid at first. I think he'll find his groove again. That aside, Robey has done everything asked of him and then some.

Yes he is.
