Scott had his elbow in the same as Cowen did and Scott hit Eriksson with his shoulder in the head and got 8 games for it and Cowen does the same and only gets 2 Once again the NHL is protecting their player by just giving him a slap on the wrist! Also if LaFontaine is thinking of even interviewing Shannahan about being GM of the Sabres http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=55669 the Sabres are in deep water.

ok, lets talk about girgs. guy scores in regulation, draws a hit that earns a suspension, plays well in regulation, scores the SO winner. hes 19 years old.

guy had a hell of a game.

as for john scott. hey, nolan. lets play scott while younger, better skilled players who need playing time to develop sit in the pressbox. thats my main complaint about him.

the only thing i can think of is scott had a little more of a runup before his hit, this one was a little more bang bang. but yeah, the disparity of suspensions seems way off

Honestly, given how arbitrary the league's suspension policy is, I'm surprised he got suspended at all.

1. We're a small market team that currently sucks
2. Girgs isn't one of the NHL's golden boys
3. The Sens are a Canadian team
4. Cowen doesn't have a reputation
5. Girgs didn't hurt. In fact, he didn't even fall down.

This is one of those hits where if Crosby or Stamkos does it, nothing happens. If a guy like Cowen or, say, Foligno does it, it's 2-5 games. If John Scott or even Thorton does it, or if Crosby or Stamkos are on the receiving end, it's 10 games. And if Kaleta does it, it's a lifetime ban.
