I heard an interesting point raised by an NFL announcer that I hadn't considered. A lot of times, teams will roll out their rookies as a special teamers. Which makes sense, they are the most expendable. But often, even late round rookies were the best players on their college teams and so they didn't play special teams in college, and they are learning it on the job. Losing Brad Smith for the year likely hurt that to some degree.
