Raiders sign Trent Edwards to future contract Posted by Curtis Crabtree on January 3, 2014, 2:38 AM EST

Quarterback Trent Edwards was among three players signed to reserve/future contracts by the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.

Edwards was with the Raiders in training camp in 2011 but was released after Kyle Boller beat him out for the backup spot to Carson Palmer (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/2550/carson-palmer).

Edwards did not play in the league this season after being released by the Chicago Bears during final cuts in August.

Edwards has started 33 games over six seasons for the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles. Edwards had thrown for 6,033 yards with 26 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

In addition to Edwards, the Raiders signed defensive tackles David Carter and Torell Troup to reserve/future contracts.

Wouldn't it be comical if he threw for 5000 yards as a Raider????

I'm disappointed Troup didn't pan out here, I liked him going into the draft.

A couple of absolute craptastic signings!

I wonder what the odds are for the Raiders to go to the Super Bowl next year after Las Vegas gets wind of these signings.

:yikes:

The Mad Bomber, v2.0

Since when does a 9 yard pass make a bomb?

Lamonica was one thing. Edwards another.

If Trestman didn't want Trent, I doubt he'll amount to anything.

The only way that would happen is if the Raiders started playing in the Lingerie Football League.

They just need to give him 1200 attempts to get there.

I'll try to be serious for a moment, as difficult as that may be. Bills fans should take some consolation from the fact that Oakland appears to be far more desperate than Buffalo. Moment of seriousness over. Trent Edwards? Really. How about YA Tittle. He may be dead but I think he has more upside.

Makes me laugh. It's funnier too when you go to the boards of whatever team just signed Edwards and read how the desperate wretches try and convince themselves it could be a good thing.

They already cut Edwards once under prior management. This is almost as bad as if the Bills had brought him back. At least he's only a short drive from his hometown when Oakland cuts him again.

Didn't the Raiders keep something like 7 QBs to start the season last year? Even if that's the case in 2014, Trent still doesn't make that team.

He'll earn the 4th spot, then the Raiders will decide to only keep three. It's the Buffalo curse.
