I was 47. I hope don't have to retire before I get to see the Bills in the playoffs again. It's not THAT far away.

I was in 1st grade when I watched the Bills beat heavily favored San Diego on the road 23-0 in the 1965 AFL title game. I was hooked for life.

Little did I know then, that was their peak. :wail:

I was 16, wrestling in one not the biggest tournaments in northern NY on the day of the forward pass....lost in the finals after watching the bills loss.

37, life was good, worked in IT for a monster bank and was looking to Y2k like most were. I wasn't really worried about Bills or Sabres, figured everything worked in cycles and I had plenty more cycles in me. Had an awesome sexy gf who was a really nice person to me if vicious to everyone else, 401k's beefy, stock options healthy, no family yet real sick, places to go and money to spend, bands to see. Good friends I loved, male and female, we'd worked out how to get along well over decades already.

Was a matter of time in terms of the Bills, the early 90's were close enough, the team was floundering a little, but everyone was, happy. Lindy, the Sabres weren't far off, matter of time there too, I had plenty.

Flutie was backstabbing Johnson in the sports headlines, I was figuring we'd replace both soon enough, Sabres had a really talented team, and Hasek yet (figured one player away), I was looking into what house I could buy, where, who I'd marry, might be the gf, and if I'd have a prayer of chance being a parent, if I did because she wanted a lot of kids.

I live in a cellar now, everyone is dead, money long gone, ex gf is doing great in California. Sabres are still somehow the Sabres, and the Bills are always and ever a player or two away. I do maint stuff I never had a clue about until I had to, seem good enough at it, live with a couple feral cats that tolerate me. Don't really think I'd ever have changed my choices, will prolly die waiting on the Bills and Sabres.

Looking back, it was another year.

I had to pull a Keyser Söze move & disappear, crossing state lines was also needed. They found me & all my victims, now I vanished again. Some they knew me very well, the ones that don't can go to hell.

My my age is old enough.

I was 17, and had NO IDEA of the misery that was on the horizon. Also a huge Knicks fan, so I basically figured my teams at least made the playoffs more times than not.

OH HO, WAS I IN FOR A SURPRISE.

I turned 46 during the season, was 45 on opening day, and had already seen many Bills teams that were the laughingstock of the NFL. I've seen the days when the present & future QB was Dennis Shaw; the Bills become the only NFL team to lose the top pick in the draft to the CFL; draft choices (Kelly) and the veterans (Cribbs) eschewing Buffalo for the USFL; 1 and 2 win seasons; and a bunch of incompetent coaches. I was too far away (because I grew up in LI) to know the glory years of the AFL Champion Bills. The Kelly years were the highlight of me being a Bills fan & I made the most of them as I went to all 4 Super Bowls & every playoff game at what was then Rich Stadium. Those years were the exception, not the rule.
So overall, these last 14 years aren't anything I haven't come to expect from Ralph & experienced somewhere in the past even though the playoff drought was never this long.

You're a year or 2 older than me & I've already been retired almost 3.5 years. It beats working.

I was 42... A friend of mine (Chiefs fan) called to congratulate me on the Bills playoff win over Tenn. I no sooner said it's not over yet when the return happened. Things got very quiet on the other end of that call... I wasn't so quiet on my end.

Yeah, I called my father right before the so-called Homerun Throwback happened...it happened right when the phone was ringing, in fact. He answered the phone and told me he could not talk at that moment. LOL, but not really funny. Unreal. Called him to talk about the win.
