Bearing in mind some of the other things being said about what Byrd might get on the open market - which isn't anywhere near $9 million per, I think the Bills should call Parkers bluff, and offer Byrd what Goldson got, but with a higher guarantee, and say 'take it or leave it'. That would be about the franchise tag number anyway, so we could still tag and trade Byrd. Thing is, I don't believe he will get the same money, from anyone else. I simply don't feel that the NFL as a whole, values the position that highly.

I have no reason to believe that Byrd would give the Bills any kind of break. Makes sense that he would only re-sign before free agency on his terms.
I think Byrd is as good as gone. The only question now is if they can work a tag and trade.

Oh for Christ's sake... just give the man $8.5/year if that's what he wants.
Then let's on getting 2 new guards, a RT and a MLB.
we could do all that with a couple of key free agents and a couple of smart draft picks.

"According to a source familiar with what pending free agent Jairus Byrd requires from the Buffalo Bills to consider re-signing before free agency starts..."
So the source is familiar with Byrd? Or not with Byrd, but with what Byrd will require from the Bills, in order for him to consider re-signing?
Who the hell wrote this trash, and why does anybody think it is anything more than some amateur, wanna-be reporter, throwing **** at the wall to see what sticks, while "reporting" what was widely assumed last season?

Here's coastal's complicated offseason plan.
resign Byrd, Carrington and Chandler. Sign Brandon Spikes and Mack in free agency.
draft the best OT in round one and best guard in round 2. 3rd round power back.
playoffs.
Idiots.
