Official - Pettine, Browns Head Coach

The Browns had a second interview with Pettine on Tuesday night. Pettine will take over for Rob Chudzinski, who was fired after a 4-12 season.

I'd trade Hughes for their 2nd round pick.

The good news is that we can just re-hire him next year after the Browns fire him.

Whaley said a plan was in place to replace Pettine.

It is time to see that plan in action.

I'm really not one of those guys that's going to wish him luck. In fact, I'm the type fella that hopes he does poorly.

I liked him tremendously yesterday...today, not so much.

I say this all because I thought he was to be the bedrock foundation of this defense for a while...best part of this team maybe. Gone now. Now our dicks are swinging in the wind again. Cleveland has a talented defense though...watch them become really, really good next year.

oooh. If he might hire Van Pelt as OC. That means we can't hire him as qb coach.

good to see all the names - wow. this is like ex-ranger central.

I'm guessing Donnie Henderson will get promoted.

Pretty much this. He was the main improvement on our D.

Now we have to find out the hard way if he was a great defensive coach or Wannstead was just that bad or maybe both

You know, I could see if he wanted to be a HC real bad but Cleveland? Come on, he was making a mark here in Buffalo and then left after a year to take a job no one wanted for a dysfunctional place like Cleveland. Normally taking a HC job is a promotion but in this case it isn't. If I were him I would have waited for a better franchise.

Pettine gets an A+ in career management, comes out of Ryans shadow with a talented defense shows he can make things happen and turns a 6-10 season into a coaching job. This was executed perfectly by him. I'm sure Marrone sold him on this when getting him to come to Buffalo just didn't think it would be so soon.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
                            It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

When you look at a guy like Mike Zimmer, you wonder when that shot comes again.

The Browns have GOOD players on defense & some good players on Offense.

They NEED a QB. Maybe we can trade them Thad Lewis for a 2nd.
