In hiring Jim Schwartz to be DC, the Bills have hit on a number of factors. For one, he has a lot to prove after being ousted as a head coach. He will almost certainly be looking for a head coaching gig again soon but will probably not get offered one for at least 2 years given the reputation his teams earned as being undisciplined. Thats where the lot to prove part comes in. Add to that the fact that he should be just as aggressive as Pettine was while fine-tuning the weaknesses of our D both in terms of approach and personnel. Plus, he has been a head coach for five years which will serve as valuable counsel for Marrone given the experience of the support group he had on staff last year. I wouldn't want him as HC but I think it's an "over hire" for DC.

Re: Why the Schwartz hire should pay big
While Buffalo was undisciplined at times last season, I think Marrone personally values discipline pretty highly. That may be a benefit to Schwartz's coaching style. I hope Schwartz incorporates some of Pettine's scheme into what he does with the Bills. If he does not, it will feel a little too much to me like starting over.I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.
I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.
