The Bills are running under a different order. Years ago, before Ralph Wilson turned over the franchise to Russ Brandon, hiring a new coordinator often was a major project. It required approval from Wilson. It meant getting a contract past his money man, Jeffrey Littman, which often was another long and tedious chore.
Wilson, if he were still running the show, might have nuked the Schwartz idea given the owner’s proximity to Detroit and the Lions’ problems under their coach.
Thankfully, those days are gone. Ralph stays informed but no longer calls the shots. The current Bills’ hierarchy has the power to cut through the red tape and react when necessary, so they did.

He still calls some of the shots.

Deciding between oatmeal and tapioca pudding can be taxing.

Bucky makes a valid point. Whether Schwartz works out or not, you have to applaud the decisiveness. Certainly a new way of doing things.

On a parallel note, I'll cry the day I can't do shots..

Sentences that have the words "Wilson" and "shots" make me happy.

I heard Wilson was fishing for trout in Canada somewhere.

I too was surprised with the speed of hiring Schwartz. Less than 48 hours. It was nice. No waffling, we obviously had our eyes on someone else.

and the fact they didn't hand it off to an underling who had not done the DC job well was an improvement.

not saying schwarz is automatic at being level or an improvement from last year, but it at least shows that they recognize that they had a good d last year, and pairing it was a guy with a long track record of running good d's should manage this group. not a newbie who has to learn on the job.
