Some Minor Thoughts on Pettine/Schwartz changeup at OBD

From what I understand, one of the biggest strength that Pettine took with him to Cleveland is the play calling ability, especially against AFCE teams. Pettine is known to be a very detailed person and play calling is one of his strength. If you go back and look at what Bills defensive players said about Pettine, you will see many "what Pettine said came true" kind of praise. Not everyone can run Rex's system. You need players and you need a guy at the helm calling the right shots at the right time. There is a reason O'Neil, Weaver, etc. want to follow him - a lot of is they know together, they can be successful.

On the same token, it is naive to assume Marrone can get another guy just continue to run Pettine's system here in Buffalo. It's not like Rex is at the helm of the Bills. Changes are going to come to defense. The good thing is they saw what can be done with the players they have so they always have that playbook and that base to go back to and build upon, even if that means get rid of Schwartz if necessary.

For Pettine, because he was hired this late, he gets to combine both Bills scouting info with the Browns for his first calling shots on free agency and draft.

For the Bills, Schwartz hiring might just push the Bills priority of getting s stout ILB a little higher, whether via FA or draft. Let's face it, he's going to run "wide 9". And he'll need some LBs who can hold at POA against OLINE to defend the run.

You're over thinking the scouting part. Teams haven't even interviewed players much. Doubt they knew they were drafting EJ this time last year.

I thought his play calling was terrible when the team needed stops the most.
